Rangers rescue radio show at rivals

By David Watters

Stafford Rangers made sure fans were able to tune in to their 2-2 draw at Whitby Town on Tuesday night by riding to the rescue of the radio station at their EVO-STIK Northern Premier League opponents.

Rangers swung into action to ensure their midweek fixture at The Turnbull Ground was covered after the Seasiders sent out an SOS to help them retrieve recording equipment left behind at Nantwich Town's Weaver Stadium on Saturday night by excited staff from Whitby Town Radio celebrating their 2-0 victory over the Dabbers in the EVO-STIK NPL's top flight.

After being tipped off by Dabbers fans Ian Garnett about the plea for help on Facebook to get the mobile studio from Cheshire to North Yorkshire from the station's lead commentator Andrew Snaith, Stafford Rangers secretary Robbie Mullen and former Dabber Mat Bailey, now Boro captain, arranged for Nantwich Town secretary Carl Thorpe to meet up with Rangers midfielder Jack Sherratt at a Little Chef on the M6 to hand over the missing equipment for transfer to the team coach!

Relieved staff from the online station later tweeted their thanks for the Non-League family and the power of social media for ensuring the broadcast went ahead after their equipment's safe arrival.

The delivery to the Seasiders followed an even bigger rescue mission in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's top flight a few weeks ago when Coalville Town sent a fleet of cars from Owen Street to pick up opponents Marine after a coach breakdown left the Mariners and new manager Tommy Lawson stranded on a dual carriageway 15 miles from the Leicestershire home of the Ravens.
