Reds legend is latest star follower

By David Watters

Former Liverpool and England star Steven Gerrard is the latest former star player to start following the EVO-STIK League on Twitter.

The Reds legend, pictured, joined a growing band of ex-pros, celebrities and sports journalists following @evostikleague ahead of last weekend's full programme of action.

With the EVO-STIK League's stats on social media surging this season, other big names include former England winger Chris Waddle, talkSPORT pundit and veteran manager and former player Bobby Gould, West Ham legend Neil 'Razor' Ruddock, Gary and Phil Neville, the BBC's Howard Nurse and Dave Chisnall from Granada Reports Sport.

The posts the EVO-STIK League's clubs have been generating since the start of the 2017-18 campaign has seen them regularly making Twitter's UK 'heat map' as hot-spots, Grantham, Ashton United, Workington, Lancaster City, Whitby and Scarborough Athletic the latest to trend during and after Tuesday night's action.

According to the latest stats from the EVO-STIK League's proud media manager James Heyes, no matchday so far this season has failed to attract less than 100,000 views on Twitter and 10,000 more on Facebook, peak audiences often far out-stripping those figures.

The EVO-STIK League itself was also beating the Premier League's big guns in September on new social platform Vole. Followers hit the 1,000 milestone mark two weeks ago after Vole was added to EVO-STIK League's thriving social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram in August following the free platform's successful launch in Germany and the UK for the start of the 2017-18 campaign.

The early impact of Vole, dubbed the Instagram of football, has helped the EVO-STIK League's stats on social media continue to surge with nearly 17,000 fans, players and officials currently following on Twitter and thousands more visiting the official Facebook pages and liking what they see.

The EVO-STIK League's stable of hit weekly and monthly podcasts also returned for the 2017-18 campaign after the summer break to add to the online boost by building on their best ever listening figures last term and an end of season surge following a series of special live broadcasts from the promotion play-offs.
