May, 36, has made a record 544 appearances for the EVO-STIK Premier Division side and re-joins on a short-term deal, going straight in to the squad for Tuesday’s trip to Hyde United, subject to registration clearance.
Joint-boss David Hewson said: “Lee (Andrews) and I are delighted to have Kyle back and his experience will be invaluable as we look to turn our fortunes around following a difficult start to our Evo-Stik Premier Division campaign.”
Meanwhile, Workington reserves boss Billy Redden has left to become assistant at Penrith.
Lee McCullough, who was his assistant, has stepped up to take charge of the reserves, who play in the Lancashire League.
