Rainworth Miners Welfare’s officials are looking for a new manager after Scott Rickards resigned from his post at the EVO-STIK League club.

The Wrens player/manager, pictured, tendered his resignation at Kirklington Road on Wednesday three days before the start of the new season and the First Division South club’s opening day encounter away at Leek Town.

Rickards, who took over from former manager Kevin Gee in September 2013, cited personal reasons for stepping down and will be temporarily replaced by assistant manager Dean Short while the club recruits his eventual successor.

A Wrens spokesman said: "Scott has found it increasingly difficult to combine the post with his ever increasing workload in his job and felt it was in everyone’s interest that he stepped down at this time.

"The committee would like to thank Scott for all the work he has done for the club and will make a decision on the vacant manager’s post in due course."
