Rinkcavage - "Trinity too good"

Frickley Athletic update, by Steve Pennock.

Blues’ manager Peter Rinkcavage was forced to concede that Gainsborough had too much for his team following their 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

He said, “Gainsborough are a top team and they showed that in the second half. We competed well for the best part of an hour but then they run right over us. There were two players in their team on Saturday who would account for our entire wage bill so it was always going to be very difficult.”

Rinkcavage added, “We did well in the first half and in open play created the best chances and if we would have scored one then you never know. It was a good game of football and for an hour I felt we went toe-to-toe with them but once we conceded the first goal it was always going to be a mammoth task. The second goal was a bad one to concede and after that they didn’t allow us to get back in the game. Even when we went to two up front we couldn’t get out of our own half and they just kept the ball off us.”

The manager though couldn’t fault his players’ endeavour saying, “We kept going and it would have been nice for us to have a grandstand finish and put them under some pressure but they have a team full of experienced players and they were never going to allow that to happen. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and despite your best efforts admit the best team won and on that score we have no complaints. To put it into context it was like Doncaster Rovers going to Chelsea and holding them for an hour before succumbing to two second half goals.”

Rinkcavage is disappointed the cup run is over but believes his team served up some memorable moments. He said, “The club haven’t beaten a team from a division above in the FA Cup for 26 years so to ask us to do it twice in 12 days was, in the end, asking too much. We take some good memories from the run however and I think the two performances against Harrogate and especially our come back in the reply will live in our memories for a long time to come. We have also earned the club a few quid in the process so we have nothing to be too disappointed about. For me, the unbelievable support we took to both Harrogate and Gainsborough shows that if we can bring a winning team here then the fans will come. We must have had almost 200 fans at Gainsborough on Saturday and the backing we received was fantastic. I just wish we could have rewarded them with a goal or two but it wasn’t to be.”

Frickley Athletic is playing Staveley Miners Welfare this coming Wednesday away from home. Fans are welcome to make the trip. Oliver Ryan and Michael Simpkins are expected to make their comeback in this newly arranged game. Kick off 7.45pm.
