Rising stars scoop September's awards

By David Watters

Nantwich Town, Stafford Rangers and Warrington Town were named on Thursday as September's winners of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Club of the Month awards after a surge in form for all three clubs.

The trio, like all winning clubs, are now looking forward to being presented with a 4.5 litre bottle of Bells Whiskey and an inscribed glass trophy to mark their achievements at upcoming fixtures by representatives of the league and sponsors Bostik Ltd, parent company of the Northern Premier League's title sponsors EVO-STIK.

After the competition's judges chose their winners after examining the results and performances of the EVO-STIK NPL's 68 clubs last month to reward the top performers, Nantwich Town will collect the top flight's award from EVO-STIK NPL operations manager Alan Allcock and a representative of the sponsors before kicking off against Matlock Town at the Weaver Stadium on Tuesday 13 October.

The undefeated Dabbers, who won four and drew two of their league fixtures under the guidance of manager Phil Parkinson to climb to second in the table, got the nod for their remarkable record up front after bagging an astonishing 24 goals along the way, seven of them coming in their final fixture of the month, a 7-1 hammering of rock-bottom Ramsbottom in front of their own fans on Tuesday night.

First Division South winners Stafford Rangers may not have scored as many but their 17 goals came in six straight wins for Neil Kitching's side. Currently eight points clear at the top of the table as a result, they will be presented with their award before kicking off against Tividale at Marston Road on Saturday (October 3) by the sponsors and EVO-STIK NPL representative John Goddard.

EVO-STIK NPL vice president and FA Respect manager Phil Bradley and Clive Timmins, sponsorship manager at Bostik, will present Warrington Town and manager Shaun Reid with the First Division North accolade before they kick off against Harrogate Railway Athletic the following weekend on Saturday 10 October.

After their cup heroics last season, the Wire are flying again. Up to third in the table, they were unveiled as last month's top performers in the division for their five wins and a draw in league action and a more modest goals haul of 11.
