Robins swoop for Lewis Thompson

Ashton United have announced the loan signing of Spennymoor Town defender Lewis Thompson until the end of the season.

The former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers youngster signed a permanent deal with the Moors in November 2022 following his departure from Scunthorpe United.

Since joining the club, he has only played in one fixture for the National League North outfit.

A left-back by trade, the former Northern Ireland U21s international is also comfortable anywhere across the backline or even in a more advanced role on the left flank.

He turned professional at Blackburn in 2018 after initially being in Manchester United’s Academy, but he joined Scunthorpe where he made 17 appearances in the EFL during the 2020/21 season.

The 23-year-old is in contention to make his debut for Steve Cunningham's side against Matlock Town tomorrow.
