A team of young volunteers from The Prince’s Trust were welcomed with open arms by Ossett Town this week after they applied to give the Evo-Stik Northern Premier club’s Ingfield a makeover.

The First Division North club's West Yorkshire ground was chosen as a community project by a team of young people benefitting from the charity’s programme. The week long project is being run and co-ordinated by Askham Bryan College and since arriving on Monday morning they’ve been overhauling facilities.

Aaron Clarke, The Prince’s Trusts Team Leader in Wakefield, said: "The Young People feel that this project allows them to accomplish everything they wish to while also giving something back to their local community.

"With many sports enthusiasts in the group, the project seemed appropriate. When complete, it is hopeful that the Prince’s Trust Wakefield Team will have made a significant difference to the designated facilities they are working on, from the changing rooms and clubhouse, to pitch surroundings and dugouts.”

Since its foundation by HRH The Prince of Wales in 1976, The Trust has become the UK's leading youth charity, offering a range of opportunities including training, personal development, business start-up support, mentoring and advice to help change young lives.

Ossett Town Chairman James Rogers said the club was delighted to be chosen by the charity and readily agreed to the request. He is now hoping fans will lend a hand by donating any spare paint they have at home so the volunteers aren’t held back by a lack of materials.

Rogers said: "This is great news for the club and shows that our desires to be seen as community club is working. The Trust have a limited budget so I ask our loyal supporters and members to have a look at the back of their cupboards and if there are any tins of paint that will be of use please do bring them down to the club.

"Specifically, we are looking for white paint, both internal and external. We have made contact with one paint company and it looks positive they will also provide some for us. I’m really looking forward to seeing the place once the Princes’s Trust volunteers have finished. Being a club run by volunteers we really appreciate the time they are giving up to do this."
