The 20-year-old has joined Boro on loan from National League North side York City until January, and has previously enjoyed promising loan spells on the east coast with Whitby Town and South Shields in the Premier Division.
Now at the Flamingo Land Stadium under Darren Kelly, the York academy graduate is hoping to help his new team to a top spot in the table.
“My goals are to play as many games as I can but also to be up around the top of the league pushing for promotion,” he said.
“My long term goal personally would be to play as high as possible. Being first choice at York would be a great achievement for me especially as it’s close to my heart, but my long term goal is definitely to play in the EFL.”
Whitley made his debut for the Seadogs in the opening weekend of the Northern Premier League, as they claimed a 2-0 victory over Atherton Collieries thanks to a brace from Nathan Cartman, including a goal in the first minute of the game.
“My debut was a good solid performance, a few kicking mistakes but overall I felt really confident and a clean sheet and win makes it even better,” said Whitley.
“I have played around 20 games in the Northern Premier League over the last couple of years and I find it a good league. It’s quite physical so you have to be strong and confident in it.
“I am definitely looking forward to gaining more experience in men’s football while at Scarborough and it seems a great club to do it at.
"It's a club who are always up there in the league so I’ll be excited for what it brings over the season.”
