FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round

In the ties involving clubs from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League on Saturday Stamford AFC and Skelmersdale United produced the 'surprise' results, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South high-flyers Stamford ousted Premier Division FC United of Manchester, despite the visitors leading 1-0 at half-time through a ninth minute Michael Norton strike.

In front of a terrific crowd of 749, Gary King equalised five minutes after the break and then Danny Brooks won it for the Daniels with sevene minutes to go.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North promotion-chasers Skelmersdale beat the 1992 finalists Witton Albion by the odd goal in five at Wincham Park.

Antony Hickey gave the visitors the boost of an early eighth minute lead that ex-Skem striker Shaun Tuck cancelled out after 33 minutes. Antony Gardner's penalty put Albion in front five minutes before the break but goals from Gary Burnett on 64 minutes and Adam Morning 17 minutes from time caused the upset.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South strugglers Leek Town gained a very creditable goalless draw at Causeway Lane against Premier Division Matlock Town. However, due to ongoing work at Harrison Park, the replay will be at Belper Town's Christchurch Meadow on Wednesday, 31st October.

Evo-Stik NPL First Division South side King's Lynn Town sailed through at the expense of managerless Ryman League Premier Division strugglers Carshalton Athletic.

What was to come didn't look obvious when Ola Sogbanmu gave the Robins a ninth minute lead. However, Stephen Spriggs equalised four minutes later and then put his side in front from the penalty spot in the 26th minute. The penalty was conceded by Carshalton's Pelayo Gomez for pulling back Jordan Yong and he was sent-off.

Lynn went on to fully punish the ten-men, with Spriggs going on to complete his hat-trick and Danny Beaumont, Russ Dunkley and Jason Turner adding the others to make it 6-1.

Lynn's league rivals and leaders Coalville Town can concentrate on going for promotion after being ousted 5-2 at Evo-Stik NPL First Division North side New Mills.

Sam Carline gave the Ravens a 14th minute lead that David Fitzpatrick cancelled out three minutes later. Michael Fish on 35 minutes and Carlos Meakin five minutes after the restart gave the Millers a 3-1 lead that Cameron Stuart reduced from the spot on 62 minutes. But goals from Meakin again on 71 minutes and Russell Headley in stoppage time completed the home side's success.

Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division leaders North Ferriby United can also put all their efforts into promotion after losing 2-1 at Silverlands to league rivals Buxton.

Michael Towey broke the deadlock by outing the Bucks ahead on the hour-mark, only for Chris Bolder to equalise12 minutes from time. But Buxton won it, courtesy of Kieran Lugsden six minutes before the end of normal time.

Two-times Trophy winners Stafford Rangers are through, thanks to a Danny Quinn hat-trick at Marston Road against First Division North newcomers Ramsbottom United, while Rammy's league rivals and hot-shots Trafford failed to find the net at home to Stafford's Premier Division neighbours Hednesford Town, who won, thanks to Elliott Durrell on 59 minutes and Jamey Osborne nine minutes from time.

Whitby Town put their league troubled behind them to go through at the expense of fellow Premier Division strugglers Ilkeston FC.

The Seasiders had to come back from being two-down at the Turnbull Ground after goals from Matt Richards and Laurie Wilson inside the opening 20 minutes. Steve Snaith started the comeback three minutes after the break and then Tom Portas equalised on 56 minutes. Graeme Armstrong on 62 minutes and Ashley Corker with six minutes remaining secured a 4-2 success.

Nicky Campbell's 66th minute effort proved enough for Romulus at Coles Lane against Evo-Stik NPL First Division South rivals Hucknall Town – finalists in 2005 – Leon Mettam did likewise after 35 minutes for Worksop Town at Roms' league rivals Halesowen Town, as did Mark Whitehouse for Ossett Town at Evo-Stik NPL First Division North rivals and 2003 winners Burscough.

Dave Walker bagged a brace and Danny Bragoli one to see Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division Rushall Olympic through 3-1 at The Scholars against Evo-Stik NPL First Division South neighbours Chasetown, whose Gavin Saunders scored a consolation 12 minutes from time.

The game between Evo-Stik NPL Premier rivals AFC Fylde and Nantwich Town ended goalless.
