Warrington Town recorded their biggest league victory for many a year as they hit second placed New Mills for six at their Church Lane ground on Saturday, but Trafford still lead the way in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Trafford beat Harrogate Railway 4-0 at home, with star striker Michael Oates being restricted to just the third of those on the hour-mark after Will Ahern and Andrew Smart had given the hosts a two-goal cushion – Steve Mason adding a fourth in the 69th minute.

A hat-trick for experienced former Northern Ireland international striker Lee McEvilly, two for midfielder Michael Reid and one for youth team striker James Anderson, secured Warrington's first three points of the season in a resounding 6-1 victory against the Millers, whose consolation came from Carlos Meakin.

Mossley and Skelmersdale United maintained their good start to the new season, both hitting four goals.

Mossley enjoyed a great win when they scored four without reply at Throstle Nest against fancied Farsley FC. New signing Adam Mather and Chris Rowney gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at the break and Keil O’Brien and Ben Richardson added to the tally in the second half.

Skem, meanwhile, eased to a 4-1 home success against a still point-less Ossett Albion. Josh Hine was Skem’s hero, netting a hat-trick in the 3rd, 14th and 35th minute – Tom Corner replying in the 33rd for Albion – and Anthony Hickey added a fourth for the hosts just past the hour.

Cammell Laird continued their recent good run of form with a 2-0 home win against Garforth Town, who are also yet to earn a point along with Wakefield and Bamber Bridge. Sean Richards put the home side ahead on 38 minutes in a game that flattered to deceive. The second half wasn't much better fayre but Lairds did manage to double their advantage when good work from Danny O'Brien forced Garforth keeper Jan Zolna into a mistake as he fumbled the ball into his own net.

Wakefield were beaten 4-0 at Stainton Park by Radcliffe Borough, for whom Ben Wharton netted a hat-trick in the 19th, 30th and 89th minute – Chris McDonagh sandwiching the other, while Brig were beaten 2-1 at Irongate by Salford City, for whom a Luke Anderson own goal and Osebi Abadaki responded after Ali Waddecar had given the home side a 26th minute lead.

Prescot Cables and Lancaster City are yet to taste victory this season to date, although Cables did manage a 1-1 draw at Ingfield against Ossett Town, who led through David Brown’s 21st minute effort until Jon Bathurst equalised on the hour-mark.

The Dolly Blues were beaten 4-1 at the Tameside Stadium by Curzon Ashton, for whom Kristian Dennis was a hat-trick hero in the 5th, 25th and 90th minutes – Tony Evans their other scorer and Simon Wills replying.

The other game saw Clitheroe edge out visiting Burscough by the odd goal in five, with Jordan Williams bagging a brace for the home side and David Lynch and Jamil Adams replying for the Linnets – Marcus Calvert winning it for Clitheroe two minutes from time.
