Saturday's First Division North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

There were only four matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North on Saturday due to the FA Trophy, with basement side Garforth Town unable to break their duck, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

They hosted Yorkshire rivals Farsley FC, who had also made a stuttering start but have improved in recent weeks and moved up to sixth place as a result of this 3-1 success.

Recent signing Matt Dempsey gave the visitors a 28th minute lead that was doubled on the hour-mark when Patrece Liburd put through his own net.

Garforth reduced the deficit seven minutes later through Dan Sheriffe, but Aaron Hardy made sure with a last-gasp third for Farsley.

Clitheroe moved into third place after beating Warrington Town 2-0 at Shawbridge.

Both goals came either side of the break, with Anthony Johnson opening the scoring on 43 minutes and Lee Pugh adding the second three minutes after the interval.

Bamber Bridge won for the first time at Irongate in the league, surviving a late scare before beating Ossett Albion 3-2.

Matty Lawlor after 13 minutes and Ali Waddecar two minutes later gave Brig a great start, but just before the half-time whistle Ossett were awarded a penalty which Tom Corner confidently slotted into the top corner.

But Lennie Reid restored Brig's two-goal cushion 11 minutes from time, only for Kurtis Noble to make it a nervy finale when he pulled a second back for Albion on 86 minutes.

Lancaster City went down to a 1-0 defeat at the Giant Axe against Salford City, for whom Adrian Bellamy scored the only goal two minutes before half-time.
