Evo-Stik Northern Premeir League First Division North leaders Mossley's home game against Ossett Town was frozen off on Saturday but second-placed Skelmersdale United managed to play and won to reduce the deficit at the top of the table to four points, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Skem, who also possess five games in hand on Mossley, beat bottom-markers Garforth Town 3-1 at the West Lancashire College Stadium, taking a 22nd minute lead through an Andrew Villerman own goal.

Adam Morning made it 2-0 right on half-time, with Brett Mbalanda pulling one back seconds later. But Mark Jackson added Skem's third on the hour-mark to make sure of victory.

Third-placed Clitheroe went down to a 3-2 defeat at Cammell Laird.

Freddie Potter put Laird ahead after just six minutes but the Blues led 2-1 at the break through goals from Danny Bell on 39 minutes and then Will James six minutes later. But five minutes after the interval Jamie Henders equalised from the spot and Aaron Bowen won it for the hosts three minutes from time.

New Mills moved into fifth place after a 3-1 home win over Lancaster City.

Sam Egerton gave the Millers a 19th minute lead that Danny Douglas-Pringle doubled six minutes later. Mike Stringfellow reduced the arrears a minute into the second half before Chris Luby made it 3-1 a couple of minutes later and that's how the scoreline remained.

Ramsbottom United moved to within a couple of points of New Mills in seventh after a 6-1 demolition of third-bottom Ossett Albion at Dimple Wells. Albion started brightly enough and took the lead through their new striker Liam Wilkin after 12 minutes but then it all went wrong!

Rammy scored three goals in each half through Lee Gaskell, Phil Dean and Jon Robinson and then Gaskell again, Grant Spencer and Dean again.

Curzon Ashton are level on points with Ramsbottom after a 3-0 Tameside Stadium victory over Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Kristian Dennis scored his twentieth goal of the season to lead the division's scoring charts and give the home side the lead from the spot five minutes before half-time. Two minutes after the break Matt Purcell added Curzon's second and Ryan Watson made it game over on 58 minutes.

The only other game on Saturday saw Warrington Town improve their top five hopes with a 2-1 win at strugglers Wakefield.

Kevin Townson bagged a brace for the Wire, giving them a fifth minute lead that Andy Cooper cancelled out within two minutes for the hosts. He then popped up to score a second after 14 minutes and Wakefield couldn't find an equaliser despite having time on their side.
