Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North

The big game of the day in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North came at Shawe View where Trafford, who started the afternoon in third place, took on leaders Mossley, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

And it ened with the hosts moving into second spot above Skelmersdale United, who were occupied in the FA Trophy, after a 2-0 success in which Michael Oates took his personal tally to twenty-three with goals in the 15th and 31st minute in front of a decent crowd of 376.

Clitheroe are fourth after a 2-1 win at second-bottom Goole AFC at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds. Simon Nangle gave the visiting Blues an early second minute lead that Marcus Calvert doubled just after half-time. James Booker replied for the Vikings from the penalty spot after 68 minutes, but they were unable to find a leveller.

New Mills, Farsley FC, Cammell Laird and Curzon Ashton all remain in play-off contention, with Ramsbottom United being the Millers victims in a 3-2 win in which James Hampson bagged a brace in the 29th and 56th minutes for the visitors after Carlos Meakin had given them a sixth minute lead.

Dominic Smalley and Phil Dean, from the spot, pulled two back for Rammy in the final 11 minutes, but their top five hopes took a blow with this defeat.

The other three teams all drew, with Farsley's 1-1 Throstle Nest point against fourth-bottom Prescot Cables being especially disappointing for Neil Parsley's side. Ryan Gratton gave Cables an early fifth minute lead that Gareth Grant eventually equalised just past the hour-mark.

Curzon and Lairds shared a 1-1 draw at the Tameside Stadium where Lee Atherton's second minute opener for the visitors was cancelled out three minutes before half-time by top scorer Kristian Dennis.

A wonder-goal from Dave Swarbrick earned Lancaster City a deserved point in a 1-1 stalemate at Giant Axe with Warrington Town. Swarbrick's dipping volley from 25 yards drew the game level following Fraser McLachlan's close range opener for the hosts.

Salford City enjoyed a 5-2 win at Moor Lane against Wakefield in which Danny Heffernan netted a hat-trick with goals in the 5th, 28th and 45th minutes – the last from the spot. In between, Rob Kinsella and Nathan Taylor added to the tally before the break, with Chris Hitchings from the spot and John Douglas replying in the second half for the Bears.

Harrogate Railway Athletic took all three points from a poor game at Dimple Wells against strugglers Ossett Albion. Albion didn't deserve any reward from a game in which their only highlight was a pnalty save by Adam Rhodes. Danny Hull and Alex Hallam won it for Railway in the final 15 minutes.

Albion's neighbours Ossett Town won 2-1at Stainton Park against Radcliffe Borough, where Grant Darley and James Eyles scored either side of a Matt Chadwick effort for Boro.

Biggest winners of the day were Burscough, who hammered bottom-markers Garforth Town 5-0 at the Genix Healthcare Stadium. Niall Cummins helped himself to a hat-trick, with Liam Caddick and David Lynch also on target for the Linnets.
