Saturday's First Division North action review

Northwich Victoria reduced Darlington's lead at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table to just two points on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Quakers were held to a 1-1 draw at Heritage Park by mid-table Clitheroe.

Terry Galbraith gave the home side a 62nd minute breakthrough and when the Blues had Dan Wilkins sent-off for an elbowing incident, there only looked likely to be one winner. However, Sefton Gonzales popped up to shock the majority in the 1,023 crowd with a stoppage time leveller.

Northwich made the most of Darlington's slip to move into second above Droylsden, who were beaten at Spennymoor Town.

Vics beat New Mills away from home, courtesy of goals from Gary Burnett after 32 minutes and Brian Summerskill right on half-time – all after Shaquille Antoine-Clarke had given the Millers a 27th minute lead.

Nathan Fisher gave Moors a 20th minute lead at home against the Bloods and then Andrew Stephenson doubled that in the 33rd minute.

Ciaran Kilheeney reduced the deficit two minutes after the break, only for Kallum Griffiths to make it 3-1 just seven minutes later, and although Ben Deegan pulled a second back for the visitors, Moors held on for the points.

Salford City and Farsley AFC complete the top five and both won on their travels on Saturday.

The Ammies won 2-0 at the Giant Axe against Lancaster City, thanks to a brace from experienced striker Gareth Seddon after 35 and 54 minutes, while Farsley won 3-1 at Burscough, courtesy of an Adam Priestley hat-trick in the third, 44th and 68th minutes – Liam Caddick replying two minutes before the third by the Gibraltar international.

The two sides immediately below the top five, Scarsborough Athletic and Bamber Bridge, met at Queensgate but the game had to be abandoned after a serious injury to the Seadogs` Chris Bolder.

Elsewhere, FA Cup heroes Warrington Town enjoyed a 3-0 home win over Radcliffe Borough with Ashley Ruane bagging a brace after Steve Foster had given the Wire a 52nd minute breakthrough.

Mossley AFC earned a 2-1 win at Valerie Park against third-bottom Prescot Cables, thanks to Lewis Nutall after 27 minutes and Sam Robinson just after the break – all after Neil Prince had given the hosts a first-minute lead.

Padiham remain rooted to the bottom after losing 3-1 at Brighouse Town, whose Tom Matthews, Ryan Hall and Ernest Boafo outgunned Louis Mayers for the Storks.

Harrogate Railway hit four without reply at Station View against Yorkshire rivals Ossett Town, Nathan Cartman netting a hat-trick and Fatlum Ibrahimi the other.

Town's neighbours Ossett Albion did better, however, seeing off Kendal Town by the odd goal in five at their newly-named stadium – Craig Carney and Nick Rogan scoring for the visitors at either end of the game – sandwiched by Conor McDonagh, Connor Bower and Ross Hardaker for Albion.
