Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

With the majority of teams involved in FA Cup action on Saturday, there were just four games in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North but they produced 23 goals, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Top of the list were Prescot Cables, who ended their win-less run in emphatic fashion by hammering bottom side New Mills 7-1, who have now lost all eight matches.

Phil Bannister got Cables off and running with a 26th minute opener, swiftly followed by Rob Doran four minutes later and then a second for Bannister just before the break.

Doran made it 4-0 just six minutes into the second half, with Brandon Windsor pulling one back for the Millers five minutes later. But James McCulloch after 83 minutes, Joe Evans on 89 and a Jordan Cooper own goal in stoppage time sealed a 7-1 thrashing for the hosts.

Not far behind were relegated Trafford, who won 6-0 at home against Harrogate Railway with three goals in each half.

Dan Lafferty after 13 minutes, Lee Rick 13 minutes later and a Jack Dorney penalty saw the hosts go into the break three-up. Dorney scored his second on the hour-mark, quickly followed four minutes later by Chris McDonagh, with Ashley Reece adding a sixth with six minutes to go.

Radcliffe Borough made it back-to-back wins with a 4-0 Stainton Park success against Ossett Town.

Tom Hulme gave Boro an early fourth minute lead that Richard Smith added to 20 minutes later. Steve Foster made it 3-0 with 64 minutes gone, with Matt Landregan adding a fourth five minutes from time.

Warrington Town moved into third spot after edging out Mossley AFC by the odd goal in five at Seel Park.

Chris Gahgan gave the Wire a 13th minute lead that was almost immediately cancelled out by Luke Horrocks. Steven Gillespie restored the visitors` advantage on 22 minutes only for Mossley to respond quickly once more with Ryan Marley levelling five minutes later. What turned out to be the winner came just four minutes later from Ciaran Kilheeney.
