Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Warrington Town have a two-point lead at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table after earning a 1-0 win against Bamber Bridge on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Ciaran Kilheeney`s goal immediately after half-time at Cantilever Park sealed the Wire`s win.

With Northwich Victoria in FA Cup action, the three others in the top five missed the chance to make up ground as all three drew.

Two of them, Spennymoor Town and Glossop North End, met at the Brewery Field and shared a 2-2 draw.

The Moors led twice, firstly after Joe Tait`s 28th minute penalty and then through Liam Henderson after 68 minutes. But both times the Hillians` top scorer Jamie Rainford levelled, in the 57th minute and then right at the death.

Fifth-placed Clitheroe had to make do with a point from a 1-1 draw at Valerie Park against Prescot Cables.

Rob Doran gave the Cables a 53rd minute breakthrough but Sefton Gonzales equalised with 15 minutes left to play.

Mossley AFC are sixth after a 4-1 Seel Park win over neighbours Radcliffe Borough.

Tom Dean gave the Lilywhites a ninth minute lead that Mitchell Bryant stretched six minutes later. Bevan Burey reduced the arrears five minutes after that, only for Michael Fish to make it 3-1 with only 24 minutes gone on the clock.

Defences then tightened, with Mossley having to wait until three minutes from time to add another through Andy Keogh.

Bottom side New Mills made it seventeen win-less games after a 2-1 defeat at Queensgate against Scarborough Athletic.

However, Boro were so nearly embarrassed as the Millers led through Mayowa Ajayi`s 56th minute opener going into injury-time at the end of the game when Alex Metcalfe and then Alex Peterson broke the visitors` hearts.

The two teams immediately above the bottom two, Droylsden and Harrogate Railway Athletic, met at the Butcher`s Arms with Rail triumphing 3-2 to move to within a point of the Bloods.

Ryan Sharrocks gave Rail a 10th minute lead but goals from James Hampson after 49 minutes and Lee O`Brien on 70 minutes turned it round for the home side. Dan Barrett equalised nine minutes later and then Stephen Bromley popped up with Harrogate`s winner four minutes from time.

Witton Albion were on the wrong end of a 4-0 drubbing at Dimple Wells against Ossett Albion.

Adam Muller broke the deadlock right on half-time and five minutes after the break Albion doubled their advantage through Connor Brunt. A Rob Bordman brace on 73 and 77 minutes completed the scoring.

Saturday's other game saw Brighouse Town and Trafford share a 1-1 draw in which Jack Dorney`s last-gasp stoppage time equaliser for the visitors` cancelled out Ernest Boafo`s 55th minute opener for the Yorkshiremen.
