Saturday's First Division North action review

By David Watters

Glossop North End are the new leaders of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table following Saturday`s round of matches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

In a really tight division with only five points separating ninth-placed Tadcaster Albion and Glossop, a win means a bit more at present, and the Hillmen`s 2-0 win over recent table-toppers Brighouse Town took them to the summit on goal difference.

A crowd of 446 saw Mike Norton give Glossop the lead on the hour-mark and then three minutes from time, their other experienced forward, Jamie Rainford, made sure with a second.

Scarborough Athletic are now second after beating Droylsden 3-1 at Queensgate.

Carl Stewart opened the scoring for Boro on 23 minutes and then just two minutes later, new loan signing, Lamin Colley, made it two on his debut.

Stewart added his second and Boro`s third just before the break, with the Bloods `winning` the second half with a penalty from Steve Lewis in the 67th minute.

Lancaster City and Ossett Town could have joined the top two on 31 points but both were held to draws.

The Dolly Blues were held 1-1 at the Giant Axe by Colwyn Bay, whose Danny Andrews cancelled out Gareth Grant`s 18th minute own goal with just seven minutes remaining.

Ossett shared a 2-2 Ewen Fields draw with Hyde United, who came back from being a 17th minute Jason Yates goal down to level through Ayrton Bevins eight minutes after half-time and then take the lead through ex-Southport player-manager Andy Bishop on 64 minutes.

But Danny Frost`s 76th minute equaliser ensured Town went away with a share of the spoils.

Bamber Bridge are back in the mix in seventh after a comfortable 4-0 Irongate victory over second-bottom Goole AFC.

Ben Wharton bagged a brace for Brig in the second and 15th minutes, with Michael Potts on 39 minutes and Ramirez Howarth on 64 minutes adding the others.

Bottom-markers Burscough lost for the eleventh time, 4-0 at Seel Park against Mossley AFC whose Dave Short gave them an early sixth minute lead.

Matty Burke added a second on 32 minutes and then second half efforts from Jordon Bove and Mason Duffy completed the scoring.

Third-bottom Ossett Albion were on the wrong end of a 5-2 home drubbing by Yorkshire rivals Tadcaster Albion.

Jason Mycoe had visiting Albion ahead inside two minutes, only for James Eyles to level 11 minutes later.

Conor Sellars restored Taddy`s lead on 33 minutes and then just past the hour-mark, Eyles bagged his second from the spot to pull the hosts back on terms.

But goals in the final eight minutes from Tom Corner, Sellars again and an Oliver Yates own goal took the game away from Ossett.

The day`s two other games both ended 2-2.

Spencer Jordan gave Colne a 10th minute lead at home to Radcliffe Borough, whose Aboubacar Sanogo levelled 10 minutes later.

Chris Lynch restored Colne`s lead in the 67th minute but Boro earned a point four minutes from time, thanks to Elliot Rokka.

Fourth-bottom Prescot Cables looked like heading for an important win as they led Clitheroe 2-0 going into the final six minutes at Valerie Park.

James Edgar after four minutes and Rob Doran on 69 minutes took Cables into their lead but Brad Carroll reduced the deficit on 84 minutes and then Dimitri Tuanzebe equalised in stoppage time.
