Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town will celebrate Christmas at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North table following a 2-0 win over Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Second half goals from Ciaran Kilheeney on 55 minutes and Chris Gahgan eight minutes from time settled the game and a welcome three points for Town after back-to-back defeats against Darlington 1883 and Lancaster City.

Farsley AFC are second after a 3-0 win over Mossley AFC at Throstle Nest. Adam Priestley put the Yorkshire side in front after 14 minutes and Matt Dempsey doubled that lead 14 minutes later. Aiden Savory on the hour-mark added a third to complete victory.

Third-placed Curzon Ashton won the game of the day against fellow promotion-contenders Lancaster City. Matty Warburton's 38th minute penalty eventually proved enough for Curzon at the Tameside Stadium.

Stephen Thompson was the star of the show with a first half hat-trick as fourth-placed Darlington went on the rampage with a 7-0 win at Burscough. Quakers’ sixth successive win was virtually confirmed when they were 4-0 up by the break with goals from Amar Purewal and Thompson`s hat-trick. Alan White added two headers in the 62nd and 85th minutes - both from corners - and Purewal sandwiched the sixth on 75 minutes.

Bamber Bridge are fifth after a 2-1 Irongate win over Ramsbottom United, taking a 26th minute lead through Tom Williams. Danny Warrender equalised five minutes later, but Jerome Watt's 83rd minute spot-kick won it for Brig.

Kendal Town maintained their progress with a 5-1 home battering of third-bottom Radcliffe Borough at Parkside. Danny Mitchley opened the scoring in the 15th minute, only for Matt Landregan to level on 32 minutes. But four minutes later Mitchley restored the Mintcakes` lead and then second half goals from Danny Lafferty in his own net on 56 minutes, Warren Beattie on 66 and Zach Clark two minutes from time completed Kendal`s nap hand.

Elsewhere, Jamie Henders' 55th minute effort proved enough to earn Cammell Laird the spoils at home against Clitheroe, while Richard Patterson`s 63rd minute strike was also enough for Ossett Town at Ingfield against Northwich Victoria.

Town's close neighbours Ossett Albion managed only their tenth point of the season to date in a goalless draw at Padiham while Salford City beat Prescot Cables 2-0 at Moor Lane with goals from Mark Battersby from the spot after 24 minutes and Matty Purcell 17 minutes from time.

The game between Wakefield and New Mills ended all-square, with Wes Bancroft giving the Millers a 61st minute breakthrough and Ryan Donoghue levelling in the 74th minute.
