Saturday's First Division North review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

The big game of the day in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division North between leaders Curzon Ashton and second-placed Warrington Town was one of five postponements on Saturday and third-placed Farsley AFC failed to take full advantage when their game beat the weather, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

They were held to a 1-1 draw at Throstle Nest by Yorkshire neighbours Ossett Town. The visitors broke the deadlock with 15 minutes remaining through James Eyles but Aiden Savory popped up five minutes from time to rescue a point for Neil Parsley's side, who could have gone second with a win.

Fourth-placed Darlington 1883 made it seven wins in a row away from home with a 3-1 win at Town's neighbours, Ossett Albion at Dimple Wells.

The Quakers were not at their best and were made to battle all the way by a determined side, who defied their rock bottom position. They had lost their eight previous home league game but took a shock lead on six minutes with Darol Lucas credited with the goal, although it took a major deflection off Joe Tait.

And the basement side held their lead at the break, but just four minutes into the second half Alan White equalised and the large contingent of Darlo fans in the 527 crowd could relax a little when Dave Dowson put the visitors in front five minutes later. Nathan Fisher added a third in the 86th minute, although credit Albion, who never gave up and pulled a second back through Tyrone Gay in injury-time.

Bamber Bridge and Lancaster City's games were off, but Ramsbottom United pulled to within two points of a play-off place after hammering neighbours Radcliffe Borough in what's known locally as the 'Black Pudding' derby!

It was all over by half-time as a crowd of 344 saw Rammy go in 5-0 up with goals from Grant Spencer after six minutes, a Lee Gaskell brace in the 16th and 26th minutes, Jordan Hulme on 33 minutes and Phil Dean three minutes before the break. Dean went on to complete his hat-trick with goals in the final couple of minutes after Bill Priestley had made it 6-0 on 52 minutes.

Salford City werent far behind on the goal trail, hammering Mossley AFC 6-2 at Moor Lane.

Porya Ahmadi proved to be the Ammies' hero, bagging four, with Mark Battersby getting the other two – Wayne Welbeck and Richard Bennett having pulled the Lilywhites back to 3-2 behind at the break.

Goals from Ritchie Foulkes and a Craig Cairns hat-trick earned Cammell Lairds the points with a 4-2 win at home to Wakefield.

Foulkes took advantage of a fumble by the visitors keeper to put the Blues ahead on the stroke of half-time. Cairns made it two on 49 minutes before James Morris pulled one back midway through the half. Cairns scored either side of a goal from Harrison Blakey in the final five minutes.

Harrogate Railway Athletic edged out Clitheroe by the odd goal in five at Station View.

Paul Coote gave the visitors the boost of a fourth minute opener. Nathan Cartman, who has signed dual forms with Rail's Conference North neighbours Town, equalised after 39 minutes and then Colin Hunter put the hosts in front from the spot seven minutes into the second half. Hunter then scored his second and Rail's third with 17 minutes to go, rendering Jake Shawcross' second in stoppage time as just a consolation
