Only Coalville Town and Gresley FC remain unbeaten in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South following Saturday’s round of matches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.
Stamford AFC suffered their first defeat, losing 2-0 at home to a Romulus side who had not won in their opening three games.
However, Liam Francis after 13 minutes and then a last-gasp Nathan Jackson effort saw Richard Evans’ side home and leave Graham Drury’s Daniels disappointed.
Coalville eased to a 3-0 home win over Rainworth Miners Welfare, with second half goals from Danny Davidson and a Ryan Robbins brace, while Gresley beat Leek Town 2-1 at Harrison Park, courtesy of two goals in the final seven minutes from Dean Oliver after Karl Charlton had given the hosts a 78th minute lead.
Lincoln United are still point-less after going down to a 3-1 defeat at The Scholars to Chasetown, for whom Nick Wellecomme bagged a brace in the 32nd and 57th minute and Andy Westwood adding the other to cancel out Ben Garrick’s reply after 66 minutes.
Brigg Town, Belper Town and Hucknall Town are the only other sides yet to taste victory after Newcastle Town, Sutton Coldfield Town and Market Drayton Town joined Romulus in breaking their duck on Saturday.
Newcastle won 3-1 at the Hawthorns against Brigg, thanks to second half goals from Neville Thompson, Jack Harrison and Andy Nicholls – Stuart Preston’s reply coming in stoppage time – and Sutton Coldfield's Joel Kettle scored both goals at Coles Lane as the Royals beat Loughborough Dynamo 2-1 – Shawn Richards with the visitors' consolation.
Belper had drawn their opening three games, but were beaten in the fourth – 3-2 at Market Drayton. The much-travelled Dorryl Proffitt scored twice for the Drayton men and Delroy Fox the winner seven minutes from time after Ryan Mallon and Karl Colley had pulled the Nailers level.
Hucknall, meanwhile, went down to a 2-1 Watnall Road defeat to Northwich Victoria, who came back from being a third minute Karl Slack goal down to win, courtesy of Lee Dodgson after 11 minutes and Chris Luby just before the break.
Halesowen Town won 2-1 at Carlton Town with goals from Ben Haseley and then Jean Gueyes two minutes from time after Ian Brown had equalised just five minutes earlier, and King’s Lynn Town lost for the first time – 2-0 at Sheffield FC, for whom Charlie Weir on 34 minutes and a Steven Woolley spot-kick 13 minutes from time, were the scorers.
And Kidsgrove Athletic gained a good 3-0 win at Mickleover Sports, thanks to a Danny Skelton double and one from Andy Kinsey.
