Coalville Town march on at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South table but they were given a real scare by Kidsgrove Athletic, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Ravens edged a seven-goal thriller at Owen Street to increase their lead to nine points after second-placed Stamford AFC were beaten 3-1 at Chasetown.

Liam Shotton gave Kidsgrove the boost of an early second minute lead but it looked like plain sailing for the leaders as Ryan Robbins after 19 minutes, Jerome Murdoch on 35 minutes, Cameron Stuart from the penalty spot four minutes into the second half and then Callum Woodward on 73 minutes gave them a comfortable-looking lead. But Shotton was having none of it and went on to complete his hat-trick to give the game a nervy finale.

Ricky Miller gave Stamford an early second minute lead at The Scholars against Chasetown but Theo Robinson equalised on the half-hour mark to take the sides into the break all-square. But three minutes after the restart Gary Hay gave the hosts the lead and then Robinson scored his second of the game on the hour-mark with what proved to be the winner.

Third-placed King's Lynn Town were held to a 1-1 draw at Harrison Park by Leek Town.

Despite Leek having the better of the half it was Lynn who went into the break in front courtesy of a 43rd minute penalty converted by Steve Spriggs. With just nine minutes remaining though Tim Grice lashed a loose ball home from close range to level and score for the fourth game running.

Sutton Coldfield Town moved above Gresley FC into fourth place after the Moatmen were beaten at home by Brigg Town and the Royals edged out Carlton Town at Coles Lane.

The game at The Moat was in doubt until late on and it was the Zebras who raced into a 3-0 lead with goals from Ryan Paczkowski and Liam Davis in the first half and then Stuart Preston on 54 minutes. Jordan Gough reduced the deficit on 69 minutes, only for Davis to score his second and make it game over 18 minutes from time, rendering Marc Goodfellow's second a couple of minutes later a consolation.

Meanwhile, Mark Danks' 27th minute goal was enough to condemn Carlton to a 1-0 defeat.

Belper Town moved into sixth place and leap-frogged visiting Halesowen Town after a 4-1 Christchurch Meadow success.

Shaun Tuton opened the scoring after 22 minutes and Stephen Warne doubled that 10 minutes later. A Richard Stirrup brace in a minute midway through the half gave them a 4-0 half-time cushion. Nav Arshad reduced the arrears for the visitors 10 minutes from time.

Rainworth Miners Welfare were unable to transfer their scoring form from the Doodson Sport Cup to the league but a clean sheet ensured a point and a goalless draw at Loughborough Dynamo.

A Jared Holmes penalty was saved in the second half of a game in which both keepers starred.

Northwich Victoria found some good form at Marston Road against Mickleover Sports, running out 4-1 winners with goals from Josh Amis and Paul Mooney in the opening half and Brian Summerskill and Alex Taylor in the second – Shaun Smith scoring a last-gasp consolation for the visitors.

A 16th minute Andy Gascoigne penalty proved enough for Sheffield FC at the Lyme Valley Stadium against Newcastle Town while bottom-markers Hucknall Town enjoyed a second away win of the season and a third in all at Market Drayton Town.

They recovered from being 2-1 down inside 11 minutes through Rob Stevenson and Kyle Blake for the Shropshire side and Alex Ford for Hucknall, whose Warren Hatfield on 50 minutes, Tristram Whitman on 61 and then Alton Rennalls on 75 minutes completed the scoring to secure a vaulable three points.
