Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South

Coalville Town suffered only their third defeat of the season on Saturday as they saw their lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division South reduced to twelve points, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Ravens were beaten by the odd goal in five at Carlton Town, who still harbour hopes of mounting a top five challenge.

They took a 15th minute lead through Luke Smithson but the leaders turned that round to lead 2-1 with goals from Anthony Carney on 38 minutes and Kris Nurse on 58 minutes. Julian Topliss equalised in the 66th minute and then Josh Thornton won it for the Nottinghamshire outfit four minutes later.

Stamford AFC made the most of Coalville's slip, winning 2-0 on the 3G at Coles Lane against second-bottom Romulus.

Danny Brooks broke the deadlock by giving the Daniels the lead ten minutes after half-time and Ben Saunders made sure with number two a couple of minutes from time.

King's Lynn Town moved into third place after edging out Newcastle Town 3-2 at The Walks in front of a good crowd of 552.

And they had to come back from being a 22nd minute Andy Nicholls goal down to win, courtesy of a Dan Quigley hat-trick in the 46th, 70th and 81st minutes – the third from the penalty spot. And although Jay Burgess reduced the deficit four minutes from time, the Linnets held on for the points.

Belper Town also maintained their top five spot with a comprehensive 5-1 win against Kidsgrove Athletic at Christchurch Meadow.

Eric Graves gave the Nailers a 15th minute lead that Shaun Roulston added to seven minutes before the break. Dan Skelton pulled one back for Grove two minutes before half-time but Greg Wright on 74 minutes, and then two from Colin Marrison and Jon Froggatt in stoppage time, completed Belper's nap hand.

Halesowen Town stay in top five contention after beating Loughborough Dynamo 3-0 at The Grove with goals from Aaron Griffiths after seven minutes and a brace from top scorer Ben Haseley in the 14th and 35th minutes.

Bottom-markers Hucknall Town, hammered 10-0 by Northwich Victoria on Wednesday night, earned a rare point from a 1-1 Watnall Road draw with Lincoln United, whose Brendan McDaid gave them a 12th minute lead that Dennis Simms cancelled out seven minutes after half-time.

Sheffield FC saw off Market Drayton Town 3-1 at home, thanks to goals from Vill Powell on 56 minutes and a Jonathan Muldoon brace on 72 and 90 minutes – and all after Neville Thompson had given the visitors a 40th minute lead.

Northwich could manage only one goal this time at The Scholars, but Gary McEvatt's 41st minute effort proved the only one of the game.

Brigg Town saw off Leek Town 3-2 at the Hawthorns, courtesy of a 90th minute own goal from the unfortunate Michael Thomas.

Earlier, Peter Wright had given the visitors a first-minute lead that Danny Buttle cancelled out from the spot two minutes after the break. Bruno Holden gave the hosts the lead five minutes later, but Wright's second 10 minutes from time seemed to have earned Leek a draw, until the OG at the death.

Danny Holmes gave Gresley FC the lead a minute before half-time at The Moat against neighbours Mickleover Sports, who levelled 19 minutes from time through Martin Smith as honours ended even.
