Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division One South leaders Coalville Town can't buy a win at the moment, but play-off chasing Halesowen Town did them a huge favour on Saturday by beating second-placed King's Lynn Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

That meant the Ravens disappointing 2-2 home draw with mid-table Market Drayton Town was a little easier to take. A Nicky Porter own goal after five minutes gave Coalville a great start, but they fell 2-1 behind to goals from Callum Wright immediately after half-time and a Neville Thompson penalty after 57 minutes before Ashley Way rescued a point for Adam Stevens' stuttering side.

Neil Barnfield's 21st minute effort eventually proved enough for the Yeltz against Lynn to leave them a point behind top of the table Coalville with five games each remaining. The win keeps Halesowen in the race for the play-offs along with Belper Town, Stamford AFC, Sutton Coldfield Town and Chasetown.

Belper ended Northwich Victoria's late top five challenge with a 3-1 Christchurch Meadow win in which Jon Froggatt bagged another brace after 27 and 45 minutes to take his tally to twenty-two – and he has missed half the season! Danny White scored the Nailers' third six minutes after the break, with Kevin Leadbetter replying seven minutes later.

Stamford were beaten 2-1 at Sheffield FC, whose Jamie Hadfield on 37 minutes and Andy Gascoigne on 72 responded after Jordan Hemptenstall had given the Daniels a 31st minute lead.

Sutton Coldfield edged out managerless Lincoln United by the odd goal in seven at Coles Lane. Luke Edwards put the home side in front after 11 minutes. Stuart King levelled on 24, only for Craig Milligan to restore the Royals advantage four minutes later.

Mark Danks increased it from the spot 20 minutes from the end, only for the visitors to pull back on level terms through Josh Raby on 75 minutes and Simon Mowbray two minutes from time. But Daryl Taylor won it for Sutton Coldfield in time added on.

Chasetown maintained their late surge for the play-offs with a 1-0 win at Kidsgrove Athletic, courtesy of Paul Sullivan four minutes before the end.

In Saturday's other fixtures, Rainworth Miners Welfare, who are voluntarily pulling out of the league at the end of the season, seem determined not to bow out limply, the Wrens winning 1-0 at home against Leek Town with a goal from Ashley Kitchen just before half-time.

Hucknall Town, who will benefit from the Wrens' decision, went down to a 4-0 defeat at Mickleover Sports, for whom Martyn Smyth on 34 minutes, Nathan Benger on 49, Rob Ritchie-Smith on 55 and David Hind 20 minutes from time were on the mark.

Ruben Wiggins-Thomas scored the only goal of the game to give Carlton Town the points at home to Newcastle Town, while fourth-bottom Romulus humbled Brigg Town at the Hawthorns, winning 5-0 and handing the Zebras their biggest home defeat of the season. Liam Francis bagged a brace for the Roms, Ashley Jackson, Dan O'allaghan and Ibrahim Diaby all added singles.
