Evo-Stik NPL First Division South

Coalville Town returned to the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's First Division South table on goal difference on Saturday night after they beat neighbours Loughborough Dynamo and overnight leaders Halesowen Town lost a home thriller to fellow contenders Belper Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Callum Woodward after 17 minutes and Anthony Carney on 33 minutes sent Coalville into half-time two-up at Owen Street. And then in the final 11 minutes, Ben Saunders and Glynn Cotton completed a comfortable derby win for the Ravens against Dynamo.

Halesowen had a great start at The Grove in front of a crowd of just under 500 when Neil Mackenzie gave them a 14th minute lead with a 35-yard screamer. Kieran Wells levelled after 25 minutes and then top scorer Jon Froggatt put the Nailers ahead on 41 minutes.

However, Aaron Griffiths sent the teams in level at the break when he equalised right on the whistle. Ten minutes into the second half and Wells netted his second to restore Belper`s lead only for Ben Haseley to restore parity on 68 minutes before Danny White won it for the visitors with a 77th minute goal.

Leek Town are level on points with Belper – and four behind the top two with games in hand – after a comfortable 4-1 win at Harrison Park against lowly Brigg Town, for whom this was a sixth successive away defeat.

Brigg found themselves 3-0 down at half-time through goals from Niall Maguire on 12 minutes and a Tim Grice brace on 21 and 38 minutes. The scoreline could have been even worse for the Zebras as the home side also hit the bar and missed a penalty. Josh Nichol pulled a goal back after an hour, only for the home side to score again through Matt Ball five minutes later.

Scarborough Athletic are now fifth after a hard-fought 1-0 win against third-bottom but much improved Bedworth United at Queensgate.

The Seadogs won it with their first shot on goal seconds before the break. Chris Tullin, Sheridan Martinez and Jimmy Beadle all went for the ball inside the six yard box and it eventually broke for Beadle to tap in.

Aaron Hooton's 35th minute goal was enough to give Carlton Town a 1-0 win against play-off contenders Sutton Coldfield Town at Stoke Lane. Sutton dropped to sixth, a point behind Scarborough after the reverse.

Newcastle Town are level on points with the Royals, but had to be content with a point from a goalless encounter at the Lyme Valley Stadium against a Chasetown side who are now unbeaten in ten league games.

Mickleover Sports are eighth, a point behind Castle, but could only manage a 1-1 draw at Rainworth Miners Welfare, whose veteran striker Tristram Whitman gave them an 18th minute lead. That looked like being enough until Sports replied in injury-time through Henry Sibenge.

Lincoln United secured a 2-1 win at fellow strugglers Kidsgrove Athletic.

Josh Bowden was the hero with an 87th minute winner after Wayne Corden had cancelled out Danny Brooks` 17th minute opener for United in the 53rd minute. Lincoln`s Robert Peet made a superb save in added time to keep his side in front.

Saturday`s other game saw Gresley FC beat Sheffield FC 2-0 at The Moat with goals in the 74th minute from Rob Spencer and 81st minute by Zibusiso Nyatito.
