There was a bit of a goal fest in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A couple of games – at Gresley FC and Tividale – fell victim of the heavy rain but the weather also contributed to some interesting matches.

Sutton Coldfield Town maintained their one-point lead at the top of the table but did their goal difference a power of good after hammering Loughborough Dynamo 6-1 at the Nanpantan Sports Ground.

It was all over bar the shouting at half-time as the Royals led 4-0 with goals from Craig Marshall after eight minutes, a Justin Richards brace in the 32nd and 39th minutes – the second from the penalty spot – and Dan O`Callaghan just before the whistle. Jamie Sheldon made it a nap hand eight minutes after the break.

Second-placed Newcastle Town could only manage one goal but Jordan Cole`s 20th minute effort was enough to beat in-form Lincoln United at the Lyme Valley Stadium.

Mickleover Sports are now third after hitting third-bottom Market Drayton Town for six away from home – and it was goalless at half-time!

Karl Ashton hit a hat-trick in the 55th, 58th and 67th minutes, Liam Walshe made it 4-0 on 69 minutes and he added a second 10 minutes from time, sandwiched by an Anthony Griffith Jnr goal from the spot in the 75th minute – James O`Neill netting a last-minute consolation for the Shropshire side.

Stafford Rangers are only a point off the play-off places after a 3-0 Marston Road victory against second-bottom Brigg Town.

New signing Jazz Luckie after 11 minutes and Dominic Dell on 31 minutes, gave Rangers a half-time lead that Dan Cope added to with 14 minutes remaining.

Elsewhere, Goole AFC won 2-1 at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds against Chasetown with goals from Billy Law a minute before the break and Andy Gascoigne a minute after it – all after Richard Davies had given the Scholars a 15th minute lead.

Romulus beat managerless Sheffield FC 4-2 at Coles Lane, taking a third minute lead through Courtney Baker-Richardson only for Joel Purkiss to level eight minutes later.

Liam Francis restored the Roms' lead on 29 minutes and Lee Smith extended it two minutes after the break. Jamie Hadfield gave Club hope of a late comeback five minutes from time, only for Edwin Ahenkorah to restore Roms`two-goal advantage in stoppage time.

Spalding United inflicted a 4-1 drubbing on Leek Town at the Sir Halley Stewart Fields.

Tom Waumsley gave the Tulips an early 5th minute lead that Darren Chadwick cancelled out on 33 minutes. But Jack McGovern on 62 minutes, Chris Hall on 81 minutes and Ryan Oliver in injury-time completed a fine home success.

Coalville Town earned a 1-1 draw at Bracken Moor against Stocksbridge Park Steels, leading through Bradley Munn's goal five minutes before half-time before Lee Garside levelled 12 minutes from time.
