There are new leaders of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South after Newcastle Town took over from long-time table-toppers Sutton Coldfield Town on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Royals lost top spot after a goal from new signing Stanley Mugisha 20 minutes from time gave Stafford Rangers victory at Marston Road in front of a crowd of 535, while Castle edged out Tividale 2-1 at the Lyme Valley Stadium.

Tim Sanders gave the home side a 38th minute lead that Richard Huckfield cancelled out two minutes into the second half. But Castle won it to go top with an injury-time effort from Jose Gurrionero Munoz.

Stafford's win sees them move into fifth spot with Mickleover Sports and Spalding United above them.

Sports' game at Stocksbridge Park Steels was off but the Tulips won 2-0 at the Sir Halley Stewart Fields against fourth-bottom Rainworth Miners Welfare, courtesy of goals from Tom Waumsley just after the break and Jack McGovern a minute from the end.

Leek Town lost fifth spot after being held to a 2-2 Harrison Park draw by Sheffield FC.

Tim Grice gave the home side a 20th minute lead that Liam Bryan levelled just before half-time. Darren Chadwick restored Leek`s lead 11 minutes into the second period, but Warren Burrell equalised 11 minutes after that.

Lincoln United and Gresley FC remain in play-off contention with victories, United 1-0 winners at Carlton Town thanks to Sean Wright 15 minutes from time.

However, the Moatmen hit bottom side Brigg Town for seven without reply at the Hawthorns in which Alex Steadman and Kieran O`Connell both bagged braces and Lucas Harrison, Jack Langston were all on target along with Daniel Ragan with an own goal.

Second-bottom Market Drayton Town earned a good 2-1 win at Coles Lane to move eight points clear of Brigg and only one behind third-bottom Kidsgrove Athletic.

Lee Smith gave Roms a 36th minute lead but a Jeff Watkins brace in the 73rd and 83rd minutes won it for the Shropshire side.

Kidsgrove also won, 3-1 at Goole AFC, thanks to Ryan Brown after 19 minutes, Wayne Johnson five minutes before half-time and an Anthony Malbon spot-kick in the final seconds after Neil Barker had replied for the Vikings on 65 minutes.

Elsewhere, Coalville Town made it five games unbeaten after a 2-0 Owen Street victory over Chasetown, courtesy of Jamie McAteer after six minutes and Alex Dean right at the end.

In contrast, neighbours Loughborough Dynamo ended a five-match winless run with a similar outcome at home against Norton United, Daryll Thomas doubling up in the 31st and 65th minutes.
