Saturday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

While the majority of teams were involved in FA Cup action on Saturday, Stafford Rangers maintained their unbeaten start to EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South season, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Rangers maintained their record with a 3-2 win at Marston Road against Sheffield FC.

A sixth win in seven matches came courtesy of goals from Ben Haseley after 29 minutes, Ryan Edmunds after 39 minutes – a minute after Stuart Ludlam had equalised – and, after Shaquille McKenzie had pulled Club back on terms again in the 53rd minute, defender Wayne Daniel won it for Rangers on 64 minutes.

Kidsgrove Athletic broke the win duck at the seventh attempt, beating Romulus 4-2 at home.

Joe Woolley gave Grove an early seventh minute lead but it wasn`t until the 57th minute that they were able to add to their tally through Jordan Johnson.

Anthony Malbon made it 3-0 with 65 minutes gone, with Luke Keen replying 13 minutes later.

Malbon made the points safe with an 89th minute second, although Keen also bagged a brace with a second in the last few seconds.

Daventry Town are second after edging out Loughborough Dynamo 1-0 at Communications Park, midfielder Barry Deacon scoring the only goal after 57 minutes while Jordan Ball did likewise for Gresley FC in a 1-0 win at Carlton Town after 36 minutes.

Stocksbridge Park Steels slipped down to third after being held to a 1-1 Bracken Moor draw by neighbours Shaw Lane Aquaforce, whose Matt Thornhill`s 42nd minute penalty gave them an interval lead that Danny Critchlow cancelled out three minutes into the second half.
