Saturday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

There`s no holding Stafford Rangers at present as their twelfth win of the season to date on Saturday saw them end the day leading the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South table by six points, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A brace from former Halesowen Town favourite Ben Haseley in the seventh and 46th minutes were enough to see off second-bottom Loughborough Dynamo at the Nanpantan Sports Ground.

Coalville Town are back up to second after they won 2-1 at bottom-markers Tividale and Shaw Lane Aquaforce`s game at Leek Town was postponed.

After Malachi Farquharson threatened a surprise with a 37th minute opener for Tividale, a Jake Woolley brace on the hour-mark and then a minute from time sealed the Ravens` victory.

Spalding United are fourth after winning 5-3 at the Sir Halley Stewart Fields in Marcus Ebdon's first game in permanent charge.

Former Wellingborough Town striker Jake Newman netted a hat-trick for the Tulips in the second, 83rd and 87th minutes, with Nathan Stainfield on 20 minutes and Mitch Griffiths` last-minute penalty accounting for the others.

Carlton had made a game of it with goals from Romello Nangle on 31 minutes, Danny Gordon on 36 minutes and Josh Rae 13 minutes from time.

Market Drayton Town are still fifth but were on the wrong end of a 4-1 home beating by Basford United, who also had a hat-trick hero in Ruben Wiggins-Thomas.

He scored in the 25th, 31st and 53rd minutes, with Scott Ryan reducing the deficit on 36 minutes – ex-Nottingham Forest man Eugen Bopp adding the fourth in the 67th minute.

Romulus have had some decent results in recent weeks but they were beaten by the odd goal in five at Coles Lane by Belper Town, whose Alex Steadman gave them a 15th minute lead.

Luke Keen equalised a minute before the break, only for Evan Garnett to restore the Nailers` lead five minutes after the interval – Phil Watt making sure with a third 18 minutes from time.

Chasetown hit three without reply at home against Newcastle Town.

James Dance on 21 minutes and Stanley Mugisha in first half stoppage time had the Scholars in command, Paul Sullivan adding a third nine minutes from time.

Improving Rugby Town made it back-to-back league wins after edging a seven-goal thriller at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds against Goole AFC.

A brace of penalties from Kevin Thornton in the third and 20th minutes sandwiched a Nicky Guest reply. Jake Healy made it 3-1 to Valley right on the stroke of half-time, only for Guest to reply again five minutes after the break.

Marino Peixoto then added Rugby`s fourth 11 minutes into the second half, and although Chris Jackson pulled a third back for the Vikings 20 minutes from time, Rugby held out to move five points clear of the drop zone.

Kidsgrove Athletic are two points better off than Rugby after a 3-0 home win over ninth-placed Sheffield FC.

Anthony Malbon gave the hosts a 15th minute lead that Jordan Johnson doubled 11 minutes later. Jack Sherratt added a third six minutes after that and it proved to be enough for Peter Ward`s side.

The day`s other game saw Lincoln United come back from 2-0 down to share the points at Ashby Avenue against sixth-placed Daventry Town.

The visitors led through Ricky Hill after 26 minutes and Nabil Shariff 12 minutes later. Ben Fairclough reduced the arrears a minute before the break and then Jack McGovern equalised in the 63rd minute.
