Saturday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

Stafford Rangers march towards the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South title continued without pause on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Rangers hold a 17 point lead thanks to Ben Haseley`s 26th minute goal at Christchurch Meadow against Belper Town.

Second-placed Coalville Town won 5-2 at Kidsgrove Athletic, Anthony Malbon bagging a brace, including the fifth minute opener.

Callum Woodward then struck on eight minutes followed by Alex Troke with three more, the first from the penalty spot in the 14th minutes and then in the 22nd and 70th minutes. In between, Lee Torr on 48 minutes turned the game in the Ravens` favour.

Basford United, Shaw Lane Aquaforce and Spalding United complete the top five picture.

Basford and Shaw Lane both won - Basford 2-1 at Sheffield FC, thanks to Deaon Meikle after 57 minutes and then Ruben Wiggins-Thomas two minutes from time after Brian Cusworth had given Club a 25th minute lead.

Shaw Lane won 1-0 at Communications Park against an out-of-sorts Daventry Town, courtesy of a 63rd minute Rob Youhill effort.

The Tulips, however, were held to a 1-1 draw at bottom-markers Tividale, whose top scorer Chris Sterling cancelled out Tom Waumsley`s eighth minute opener from the spot on 34 minutes.

Only five points though separate eleventh-placed Stocksbridge Park Steels, who drew 0-0 at Lincoln United, and Spalding in fifth.

Leek Town are in that mix and they won 3-0 at Harrison Park against Gresley FC with first half goals from Tim Grice with two and an 89th minute third from Niall Maguire.

Chasetown in seventh could only draw 1-1 at Goole AFC, whose Aarom Moxam opened the scoring after 25 minutes before James Dance levelled from the spot on the hour-mark.

Romulus and Rugby Town are also in that pack and both won – the Roms 5-1 against second-bottom Loughborough Dynamo.

The goals came from Chad Degville-Cross after nine minutes and then second half efforts from Luke Keen, Barry Fitzharris, Mark Branch and an own goal, with Mark Shelton replying.

Valley won 2-1 at Butlin Road against Carlton Town, who led through Romaine Graham`s 19th minute goal before David Kolodynski after 24 minutes and then Steve Towers 17 minutes from time won it for the hosts.

Newcastle Town drew 1-1 at home to Market Drayton Town in the day`s other game in which Paul McMullen`s 15th minute opener was cancelled out in stoppage time at the end of the match by Tim Sanders.
