Saturday's First Division South action review

By David Watters

Stafford Rangers won again on Saturday to stay sixteen points clear at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division South table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A crowd of 601 at Marston Road saw Rangers ease to a 5-2 success against second-bottom Loughborough Dynamo.

Levi Reid after seven minutes and Ben Haseley after 18 minutes gave Rangers a half-time cushion. New boy Ahmed Obeng added a third immediately after the break and Christian Dacres made it 4-0 just past the hour-mark.

A Jermaine Johnson own goal pulled one back for Dynamo on 74 minutes but Nathan Rooney made it a nap hand just five minutes later. The visitors did have the last word though with an 85th minute Kevin Hemagou effort.

Second-placed Coalville Town, who still have a couple of games in hand on Rangers, eased to a 3-1 Owen Street victory over bottom-markers Tividale.

Jared Holmes gave the Ravens a great start with a goal in the opening minute and then added a second 14 minutes later. Chris Rabone responded for Tivi after 33 minutes but Dean Freeman made sure with Coalville`s third on 65 minutes.

Shaw Lane Aquaforce`s game was off but fourth-placed Basford United could only manage a 2-2 home draw with mid-table Market Drayton Town.

Harry Ioannou gave the Shropshire visitors a 22nd minute lead that Mason Rowley overturned with goals in the 35th and 57th minutes. Martyn Davies salvaged a point for Drayton on the hour-mark.

Lincoln United scored five without reply at Daventry Town to go fifth on goal difference from Chasetown, who won 2-1 at Newcastle Town.

At Communications Park, Matt Cotton and a Jack McGovern brace had Lincoln 3-0 up at the break. Mitch Griffiths and Gary King added two more in the second half.

Jordan Cole put Castle in front a minute before half-time at the Lyme Valley Stadium but George Washbourne pulled the Scholars back on terms after 57 minutes and Paul Sullivan won it 15 minutes from time.

Stocksbridge Park Steels maintained their outside top five hopes with a 3-0 win at The Moat against Gresley FC, thanks to a Rory Coleman brace – the second from the spot – and one from Joe Lumsden 11 minutes from time.

Rugby Town also stayed in contention after a 2-0 Butlin Road victory over third-bottom Goole AFC, courtesy of Kevin Thornton after 43 minutes and Rob Parker two minutes after the break.
