Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town and Curzon Ashton mirrored results on Saturday to stay joint-top of the Evo-Stik Northern PremierLeague First Division North table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Wire won 1-0 at Ingfield against Ossett Town, thanks to an early fifth minute James McCarten effort, while Curzon beat Cammell Laird by the same scoreline at Kirklands, courtesy of Jonathan Hunt's 35th minute strike.

Farsley FC, Darlington 1883 and Bamber Bridge occupy the remaining top five slots, with the Quakers being the only one not to pick up three points as they were held 0-0 at the Giant Axe by seventh-placed Lancaster City.

Farsley won 2-0 at Throstle Nest against third-bottom Radcliffe Borough with goals from Lee Ellington in the eighth and 41st minutes, while Brig won 4-1 at Victoria Park against now second-bottom Burscough.

Greg Johnstone gave the visitors a 12th minute lead that Matt Lawlor doubled right on half-time. Mark Beesley responded from the penalty spot on 58 minutes, but Curtis Thompson on 71 minutes and then Tom Williams right at the end, completed a good win for Brig.

Ron Bordman netted a hat-trick as Wakefield moved out of the bottom two with an odd goal in five win at Moor Lane against Salford City, for whom Dan Browne and Gary Prescott caused a few nerves with replies in the final 15 minutes.

Prescot Cables won by the same scoreline at Valerie Park against Ossett Albion, taking a 1-0 lead through Connor McCarthy after 26 minutes and then, after Dale Kelly had equalised on 34 minutes, added a further goal from McCarthy again. An own goal from Antony Shinks followed before Ged Murphy also beat his own keeper in injury-time.

Padiham's inconsistency showed its positive side on Saturday as the Storks won 2-1 at home to fifth-placed Kendal Town with goals from Kieron Pickup on 32 minutes and Ben Allen on 67 – Mike Rushton sandwiching the Mintcakes` reply on 54 minutes.

New Mills edged out Clitheroe by the same scoreline at Church Lane in which James Hampson put the Millers in front after just four minutes. Melford Knight added their second 11 minutes later, with the Blues` replying 12 minutes from time through Lloyd Dean.

Ramsbottom United eased to a 4-0 win at Station View against Harrogate Railway Athletic with goals from Dominic Smalley after 16 minutes, Tom Brooks in the 35th and a Phil Dean spot-kick right on half-time, with Dean adding a fourth 15 minutes from the end.

Northwich Victoria are now eighth after seeing off Mossley 2-0 at Flixton, thanks to goals from Gary Burnett after 69 minutes and Brian Summerskill in stoppage time.
