Saturday's First North action review

Evo-Stik NPL First Division North

Warrington Town are three points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North table after a last-gasp win over Burscough on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A stoppage time goal from Ben Wharton secured all three points for top-of-the-table Wire, with a smash and grab victory over the Linnets. The victory saw Warrington extend their unbeaten league run to fourteen games.

With the game between second-placed Curzon Ashton and Farsley AFC being postponed, Bamber Bridge took the chance to overtake Farsley and move into third place after a 3-0 success against Harrogate Railway Athletic at Irongate. Ali Waddecar was Brig's hero, helping himself to a hat-trick with goals in the ninth, 29th and 58th minutes.

There was no doubt where the game of the day was. Lancaster City moved into fifth place after an amazing 9-4 win at Wakefield!

Goals from Ryan Winder after 18 minutes and Simon Waring a minute later gave the Dolly Blues a good start, only for Rob Bordman to pull one back seven minutes later. Danny Mahoney immediately made it 3-1, only for Bordman to reduce the deficit to just one again five minutes later. But Mahoney again and Winder with his second added to the City tally to make it 5-2 at half-time.

Ross Hardaker pulled a third back for the hosts on 56 minutes, only for Glenn Steel and Tom Kilifin to score twice in a minute shortly afterwards to extend City`s lead to 7-3. Undaunted, Jon Douglas pulled a fourth back for Wakefield with 15 minutes to go, but once more that led to Lancaster netting two more as Kilifin completed his hat-trick!

The Dolly Blues moved above Darlington 1883, who suffered their second successive home defeat at Heritage Park in a 1-0 reverse to Northwich Victoria.

The Vics were the victors in a game forced to kick-off an hour late after they were caught in traffic on the M6. They took the lead on 30 minutes when Brian Summerskill walked through the Quakers' defence after Gary Burnett's shot was parried by Peter Jameson and never relinquished it.

Scott Bakkor was another hat-trick hero as Clitheroe edged out Ossett Town by the odd goal in five.

Fernando Moke gave the visitors the lead on the half-hour mark, but Bakkor netted two spot-kicks in the 47th and 61st minutes to give Clitheroe the lead. He completed his triple five minutes later, although Luke Sharry's second near the end for Town meant a nervy finale.

Salford City ensured it was an unhappy day for the town of Ossett as they won 2-1 at Dimple Wells against bottom-markers Albion.

Tyrone Gay gave the hosts an 11th minute lead that Danny Browne after 49 minutes, and James Kirby 12 minutes from time, cancelled out.

Luke McCarthy gave Mossley AFC a 41st minute lead at Seel park against Cammell Laird. And right on half-time Tom Platt doubled the Lilyewhites` advantage – a lead Laird were unable to cut.

Another delayed kick-off at Parkside where visiting Prescot Cables were held up but were unable to stop Kendal Town going seventh in the table after their 3-0 win, thanks to goals from Maison McGeechan with two and Danny McGahon – all in the opening 45 minutes.

Danny Warrender gave Ramsbottom United a 38th minute lead at the Riverside against New Mills, who eventually earned a point through Daryl Weston 15 minutes from time.
