Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Although there were only a handful of games due to the FA Cup on Saturday, there are somewhat surprise leaders of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Prescot Cables moved to the summit after inflicting a second defeat on Clitheroe – and on their own patch too.

Rob Doran gave Cables a 10th minute lead that was cancelled out by Bradley Carroll`s 53rd minute penalty. But Joe Nicholson won it for the visitors with eight minutes remaining.

Bamber Bridge are now second after winning 3-0 at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds against managerless Goole AFC.

Regan Linney gave Brig a 12th minute lead that Stuart Vasey doubled three minutes after the break. Michael Potts ensured the points went to the away side with a third 12 minutes from time.

Kendal Town and relegated Ramsbottom United both earned second wins of the season to date.

The Mintcakes beat Scarborough Athletic 2-1 at Parkside with goals from Oliver Wood in the 73rd minute and Matt Dudley a minute from time after Scott Brown had equalised five minutes earlier.

Rammy edged out Droylsden by the odd goal in five at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium.

The in-form Steve Lewis gave the Bloods a 13th minute lead that Louis Mayers cancelled out 11 minutes before the break.

Former Salford City star Gareth Seddon reminded people he`s still around when he gave Rammy a 72nd minute lead and Alex Meaney made it 3-1 with five minutes remaining, although a second for Lewis in stoppage time made it a nervy last few seconds.
