Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Brighouse Town are only two points clear at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North table after being held to a goalless draw at improving Prescot Cables on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

That allowed Bamber Bridge to reduce the gap after winning 3-0 at Trafford, thanks to goals from Adam Dodd and Jamie Milligan in the first half and Milligan again from the penalty spot in the second.

Tadcaster Albion are third after winning 2-1 at home against Droylsden, courtesy of goals from Tom Corner in the 70th and 81st minutes, with Adam Farrell replying six minutes from time.

Lancaster City moved above Farsley Celtic into fourth after winning 4-2 at Throstle Nest.

Alex Davidson had Farsley in front after 43 minutes, only for Louis Mayers to equalise right on half-time. Richard Marshall restored the home side`s lead from the spot on 54 minutes but Josh Westwood and a Jordan Connerton brace in the final 15 minutes turned the game in the Dolly Blues` favour.

Glossop North End are level on points with Lancaster and Farsley after winning 4-0 at a still win-less Burscough.

Ben Richardson scored the only first half goal and then Jamie Rainford, Max Leonard and Mark Reed added three more in the second period.

Colwyn Bay also have nineteen points after winning 2-1 at Parkside against Kendal Town with Will Jones on 47 minutes and Will Booth on the hour-mark sandwiching Sam Bailey`s spot-kick reply.

Clitheroe won by the same scoreline at Ingfield against Ossett Town, whose Alex Peterson opened the scoring after nine minutes.

Dan Brady eight minutes later and Dimitri Tuanzebe six minutes from time turned it in the Blues` favour.

Ramsbottom United made it a bad day for Ossett as they beat second-bottom Albion 2-1 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium with goals from Sam Freakes right on half-time and a Darren Green penalty on 63 minutes – all after James Eyles had given the visitors the lead from the spot on the half-hour mark.

Carl Stewart bagged a brace as Scarborough Athletic edged out Hyde United 3-2 at Queensgate, David Brown scoring Boro`s third with Ayrton Bevins and Matt Dempsey replying.

Radcliffe Borough went nap at Stainton Park against third-bottom Goole AFC, although they only led 1-0 at the break through Jack Hindle`s early ninth minute effort.

Frank Van Gils doubled the home side`s lead nine minutes after the break and then Aboubacar Sanogo with two and Elliot Rokka made it a nap hand, with Curtly Martin-Wyatt`s penalty all the Vikings had to show for their efforts.

And a 17th minute Adam Morning goal eventually sealed Colne`s 1-0 verdict at Seel Park against Mossley AFC.
