Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

There is a five-way tie at the top of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table after Saturday`s round of matches, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Farsley Celtic are the new leaders after they won 2-1 at Throstle Nest against ten-man Hyde United.

Aiden Savory broke the deadlock to give Farsley a 52nd minute lead. Hyde then had James Burke dismissed for two yellow card offences and Savory eventually doubled Celtic`s lead in the 83rd minute. Phattaraphol Khamsuk netted an 87th minute consolation for the Tigers.

Overnight leaders Brighouse Town suffered a 1-0 home defeat to a Lancaster City side who are now second, Billy Akrigg`s 67th minute effort eventually proving enough for the Dolly Blues.

Glossop North End and Scarborough Athletic are the other joint leaders despite the latter enduring a frustrating afternoon at Trafford in a game that ended 0-0.

Glossop edged out Clitheroe by the odd goal in five at Shawbridge, coming back from being 2-0 down to an early fourth minute Charlie Russell goal and a 33rd minute Kurt Willoughby effort. Mike Norton reduced the deficit just before the break but it wasn`t until five minutes from time that Nicky Platt equalised and the Hillmen won it two minutes later through top scorer Jamie Rainford.

Kendal Town are just a point behind in sixth after beating Prescot Cables 3-1 at Parkside.

A Rob Bowman brace in the 26th and 49th minutes gave the Mintcakes a two-goal lead that Josh Wardle added to in the 65th minute. Lloyd Dean responded within two minutes but that was all the Cables were able to offer in response.

The tightness of the division sees just seven points separate top spot from fourteenth-placed Colwyn Bay. However, probably the biggest celebrations of the day came at Burscough after the Linnets won their first game of the season at the fifteenth attempt!

They hosted a Tadcaster Albion side who were looking to put pressure on the top five with a win, and started well enough as Tom Corner gave them an eighth minute lead from the spot. But a Conor Smith brace in the 28th and then the 90th minutes sealed the hosts success.

Burscough are now only two points behind second-bottom Goole AFC, who were beaten 3-1 at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds by mid-table Colne FC.

Jason Hart gave the Lancastrians an eighth minute lead that Bobby Johnson cancelled out after 35 minutes. A Mark Ayres penalty just before the hour-mark and a Jack Lynch effort on 68 minutes earned Colne their victory.

Well-travelled striker Gareth Seddon bagged a brace to help Ramsbottom United to a 4-2 Harry Williams Riverside win over Mossley AFC.

Seddon struck on 39 and 49 minutes – Matty Burke having levelled on 47 minutes. Josh Askew made it 3-1 with 19 minutes to go before Mason Duffy reduced th4e arrears in the 81st minute. But Ryan Salmon ensured the points stayed at home with an 85th minute fourth for Rammy.

Mossley`s Tameside neighbours Droylsden won the derby at Stainton Park against Radcliffe Borough with goals from Adam Farrell and Steve Lewis in the final 12 minutes after Boro had led through Elliot Rokka`s goal a minute before the break.

Tyrone Gay gave Ossett Town a 17th minute lead at Ingfield against Bamber Bridge that Jason Yates doubled just before the hour-mark.

Town`s neighbours Ossett Albion earned a good point from a 1-1 draw at Llanelian Road against Colwyn Bay, Will Booth giving Bay a 57th minute lead that they held until five minutes from time when Nick Matthews equalised.
