Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Scarborough Athletic lead the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table by two points after they won 2-0 at Prescot Cables on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Jameel Ible gave Boro the lead at Valerie Park after 23 minutes. And Cameron Murray ensured the points would cross over to Yorkshire with a second in the 57th minute.

Lancaster City are second, thanks to Craig Carney`s goal 12 minutes from time at the Giant Axe against Hyde United.

Ossett Town moved into third, courtesy of their 2-0 Ingfield win over Kendal Town and Glossop North End only managing a draw at Brighouse Town.

After a goalless opening period, Danny Frost gave Ossett the lead six minutes after the restart. Tyrone Gay bagged what proved to be enough for the hosts when he added number two just eight minutes later.

Seventh-placed Brighouse were two-up at home to Glossop, thanks to Devonte Morton after 22 minutes and then Jack Stockdill on 54 minutes. But Ben Richardson immediately responded for the Hillmen and Sam Barnes equalised in the 69th minute.

Brighouse remain seventh, but the team immediately above them, Farsley Celtic, saw Nathan Turner`s own goal just before the break for visitors Trafford end the hosts' unbeaten run.

Burscough achieved only their second win of the season at Stainton Park against Radcliffe Borough – Elliott Nevitt scoring the only goal 13 minutes from time for the Linnets.

Unfortunately for Burscough, second-bottom Goole AFC and third-bottom Ossett Albion also won on Saturday!

The Vikings responded to their new management duo with a 3-1 Victoria Pleasure Grounds win over Colwyn Bay with goals from Bobby Johnson after 23 minutes, Nathan Modest two minutes later and Modest again on 67 minutes – all after Scott Bakkor had given the Welsh side a 16th minute lead.

And Albion earned a good 2-1 win at Colne, courtesy of Adam Muller after 53 minutes and then Rikki Paylor four minutes from the end after Mark Ayres had levelled from the penalty spot on 62 minutes.

Liam Caddick`s 24th minute effort eventually proved enough to give Droylsden all three points at Irongate against Bamber Bridge while Carl Stewart scored six minutes into his return to Tadcaster Albion colours. Unfortunately for Stewart, hosts Clitheroe netted three times through Dimitri Tuanzebe with two in the 13th and 90th minutes and Dan Brady on 19 minutes to seal a 3-1 win.

Andy Keogh gave Mossley AFC an early ninth minute lead at Seel Park against Ramsbottom United in a 2-1 win.

David Short eventually added the Lilywhites` second nine minutes from time, although Paul Linwood replied three minutes later to make for a nervy finale for the hosts.
