Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Just three points separate the top six clubs in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League First Division North after Saturday`s round of matches that produced new leaders in Lancaster City, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Dolly Blues moved to the summit on goal difference after winning 2-1 at Tadcaster Albion.

Tom Corner gave the home fans something to cheer in stoppage time at the end of the first half as he smashed in his 10th goal of the season. The celebrations were short lived though as Lancaster replied a matter of seconds later through Ryan Winder.

Jacob Bradley’s strike six minutes into the second half turned out to be the winning goal as Tadcaster`s poor run of results continued.

Ossett Town`s excellent season sees them joint top after a hard-fought 1-0 win at bottom-markers Burscough, Jake Ellam`s 26th minute effort eventually proving enough for Town.

And they were done a huge favour by close neighbours Ossett Albion, who knocked Glossop North End out of the top five after a 2-1 Dimple Wells victory.

Albion took the lead in the sixth minute when Ron Bordman fired a free-kick beyond Matthew Cooper in the Glossop goal. Glossop equalised from a corner six minutes into the second half when Ross Hardaker put the ball into his own net. Albion didn't give up and Bordman scored what proved to be the winner directly from a corner kick in the 62nd minute.

Scarborough Athletic, Trafford and Clitheroe now complete the top five with Glossop sixth.

Overnight leaders Scarborough suffered a disappointing 3-1 Queensgate defeat to Radcliffe Borough in front of a crowd of 402.

Boro never seemed to recover after going behind to an early second minute Raul Correia effort. Cameron Murray did eventually equalise nine minutes after the break but a brace from Frank Van Gils in the 67th and 90th minutes condemned Scarborough to defeat.

Trafford could only manage a 1-1 home draw with a Brighouse Town side who are now eighth and just a couple of points behind the top five.

The visitors got off to a great start when Leon Osbourne put them in front inside the opening minute. Aaron Burns pulled Trafford back on terms just before half-time.

Clitheroe managed a 2-1 win at the Butcher`s Arms against Droylsden, taking a 10th minute lead through Kurt Willoughby and adding to that six minutes before the break through Dimitri Tuanzebe, with Liam Caddick `winning` the second half with a 61st minute reply for the Bloods.

Colwyn Bay missed the chance to move level on points with Clitheroe and Glossop after being held to a 1-1 Llanelian Road draw by Bamber Bridge, who had a change in manager in midweek.

Danny Andrews put Bay in front after 26 minutes but Regen Linney`s 63rd minute equaliser earned Brig a point.

Goole AFC are out of the drop zone on goal difference after they shared a 1-1 draw at Kendal Town, with Nathan Modest cancelling out Danny Forbes` 37th minute opener for the Mintcakes just three minutes later.

The Vikings have been replaced by Prescot Cables, who suffered a 7-2 mauling by Mossley AFC at Seel Park.

The Lilywhites` Mike Fish helped himself to four of the goals as they game was virtually done and dusted by half-time, with the hosts 5-0 up – Sam Robinson adding the other. Jason Hill and Andy Keogh scored the two others for the home side, with James Edgar and Dominic Marie at least earning a second half `draw` for Cables.

Hyde United and Colne shared a 2-2 Ewen Fields draw in the day`s other game.

Ayrton Bevins gave the Tigers an 18th minute lead but Joe Garvin after 38 minutes and Simon Nangle four minutes later, gave the Lancastrians an interval lead. James Burke salvaged a point for Hyde 19 minutes from time.
