Saturday's First North action review

By David Watters

Lancaster City and Ossett Town head into the busy festive season as joint leaders of the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's First Division North table following Saturday`s results, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

The Dolly Blues saw off Town`s close neighbours Ossett Albion who, in contrast are struggling near the bottom of the table, 2-0 at the Giant Axe with an own goal from Jackson Hassanyeh a minute before the break and then Louis Mayers just shy of the hour-mark being the scorers.

Town won 1-0 at Ingfield against Mossley AFC, courtesy of a 52nd minute Alex Peterson effort.

Fellow top five sides Trafford and Clitheroe also won, but Scarborough Athletic slipped out of the play-off places after losing at 1-0 Colne, and were replaced by Glossop North End, who won at home against Kendal Town.

Trafford are third after a 3-1 success at third-bottom Goole AFC, thanks to goals from Aaron Burns after 27 minutes, Jonah Gosling on 57 minutes and Ashley Woods on 65 minutes – Bobby Johnson having pulled one back from the penalty spot eight minutes after the break.

Clitheroe are fourth after Dimitri Tuanzebe`s goal immediately after half-time was eventually enough to beat an eighth-placed Colwyn Bay at Shawbridge while Scarborough succumbed to a goal four minutes after the break from Colne debutant Ric Seaar.

Glossop survived a late comeback by the Mintcakes after leading 3-0 with goals from Mike Norton on two and 64 minutes, sandwiched by a Max Leonard spot-kick on the hour-mark. Sam Bailey`s brace in the 72nd and 86th minutes were not quite enough for Kendal.

Ten-man Farsley Celtic returned to winning ways as they comfortably dispatched basement club Burscough 3-1 to remain in seventh spot.

Burscough made a stunning start as they took the lead inside a minute, Adam Clayton gifting the ball away to Mamoke Akaunu who slotted home past Graeme McKibbin. But goals from James Walshaw on 23 minutes, Ross Daly right on half-time and Ryan Watson a minute from the end sealed Celtic`s win.

Brighouse Town`s charge towards the top five took a blow when they lost 3-2 at home against Droylsden.

The home side led 2-0 with first half goals from Dan Illingworth and Kurt Harris. Tom Peers reduced the arrears on 58 minutes and then Luke Daly levelled three minutes later.

The game was then held up for some time due to a bad injury to the Bloods` defender Phil Clarke, and when the match re-started, Domaine Rouse won it for the visitors in the 69th minute.

Goals from debutant Tom Allan after 38 minutes, Josh Greening two minutes after the break and Tom Corner two minutes later saw Tadcaster Albion see off Radcliffe Borough and win for the first time in over a month.

Boro had led through Tim Raheem`s goal on the half-hour mark and pulled a second back on the hour-mark.

Elsewhere, Bamber Bridge beat Hyde United 2-1 at Irongate with goals from new signing Christian N`Guessan after 67 minutes and Regan Linney 17 minutes from time – all after Janni Lipka had given the Tigers a 45th minute lead.

The day`s other game between second-bottom Prescot Cables and Ramsbottom United saw a 4-2 win for the visitors.

Aaron Hollindrake gave Rammy an early seventh minute lead that Rob Doran cancelled out on the half-hour mark. Hollindrake restored the visitors` lead on 64 minutes, only for Doran to once again respond from the spot three minutes later. But Ryan Salmon on 70 minutes and Grant Spencer nine minutes from time sealed Rammy`s win.
