Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division action review

North Ferriby United moved four points clear at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premeir League Premier Division table on Saturday after winning by the odd goal in five at Nantwich Town's Weaver Stadium, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Anthony Wilson, who signed for Ferriby on loan from Conference Premier side Alfreton Town on Friday, got off to a great start with his new side by giving them an 18th minute lead.

However, the Dabbers bounced back and went 2-1 up with goals from Sean Cooke after 23 minutes and their own new boy, Simon Everall, seven minutes later. But crucially Wilson equalised right on half-time and then Ryan Kendal made it 3-2 with just two minutes of the second half gone – and that proved to be the winner.

Marine dropped down to fourth after going down to a surprise 3-1 defeat at the Arriva Stadium to Matlock Town.

Massiah McDonald maintained his good run of scoring form by giving the Gladiators a 35th minute lead that Brad Grayson added to just four minutes later.

Andy Fowler reduced the arrears five minutes after the restart, only for defender James Lukic to score what proved to be the winner for the visitors four minutes later.

Both Hednesford Town and Ashton United took advantage of the Mariners' slip by moving above them in the table with away successes.

The Pitmen are now second after winning 2-0 at the Turnbull Ground against Whitby Town.

Nathan Woolfe put the visitors ahead after 18 minutes and their long journey home was made happier when Jamey Osborne made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute.

Ashton sent Stocksbridge Park Steels to the bottom of the table after winning 3-0 at Bracken Moor.

A Brett Bowden-Lovell own goal broke the deadlock after 36 minutes and then Scott Hogan doubled Ashton's lead just before the hour-mark, with Matty Barlow adding a third for good measure with five minutes remaining.

Steels slipped to the bottom due to Ilkeston FC's amazing comeback at the New Manor Ground to draw 4-4 with Kendal Town.

Watched by a crowd of 401, the Robins came from 4-1 down to fire three goals in the final six minutes - and it was a 94th minute strike from the on-loan Jack Eades that finally scrambled the point.

Eades, who signed yesterday on loan from Conference Premier side Cambridge United, had already opened his account in impressive fashion with a neat strike straight after half-time.

But by that time Kendal were already 2-0 up through Joe Bunney and Josh Amis on 30 and 44 minutes respectively. Alex Taylor added the Cumbrians' third eight minutes after the break and then Bunney surely made it game over when he made it 4-1 in the 69th minute.

But veteran striker Gary Ricketts began the unlikely comeback in the 84th minute and then Jack Watts pulled a third back three minutes later, with Eades equalising in stoppage time.

Chorley are fifth, but had to be content with a point from their 1-1 home draw with Worksop Town.

Andy Teague gave the Magpies a 17th minute lead that Craig King cancelled out just three minutes later. Witton Albion could have joined Hednesford on thirty points with victory at Wincham Park against lowly Grantham Town.

However, it was the Gingerbreads who took the points, courtesy of goals from Paul Grimes from the penalty spot after 32 minutes and then in injury-time from Karl Demidh.

Buxton won 1-0 at Silverlands against Frickley Athletic, with Michael Towey's goal two inutes before half-time eventually proving enough, while Blyth Spartans, hammered 8-1 by Worksop in midweek, kept a clean sheet and beat Stafford Rangers at Croft Park, thanks to a 10th minute Ryan McGorrigan effort.
