Saturday's Premier Division action review

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League

North Ferriby United won the big game in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division on Saturday against fellow high-flyers Marine to increase their lead at the top of the table to six points, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Dean Lisles gave the Villagers a great start with a goal inside three minutes and then Ryan Kendall doubled that after 19 minutes. Marcus Carver reduced the arrears nine minutes later, but Danny Clarke scored what proved to be the decisive goal for the hosts 10 minutes into the second half.

Ashton United moved into second place after winning another top of the table clash at Hurst Cross against Chorley.

The home side were rocked when John Cunliffe gave the Magpies the lead inside the opening minute. Aaron Burns equalised 15 minutes later, only for Tom Ince to restore Chorley's lead in the 25th minute.

This time it took until the hour-mark for the next goal to arrive, and it came from Ashton's Chris Lynch. Then, two minutes later, Burns scored his second and a third for the hosts from the penalty spot for what proved to be the winner.

Witton Albion are fourth after edging out struggling Eastwood Town by the odd goal in seven at Coronation Park.

Things looked bleak for the Badgers when Shaun Tuck gave Albion an early ninth minute lead. However, two goals in four minutes midway through the half from Alex Troke and a Paul Booth own goal turned the game in the home side's favour.

But Steve Foster equalised on 63 minutes and three minutes later Tuck scored his second to make it 3-2. Two minutes after that the battling home side pulled back on terms with Troke's second, only for Tuck to complete his hat-trick and win it for Albion seven minutes from time.

Two goals from Luke Hinsley and one from Gavin Allott saw Frickley Athletic rack up their sixth successive home victory with a comfortable 3-0 win against Nantwich Town.

All three goals came in the first half and the Blues could have added to the scoreline in the second half.

Biggest winners of the day were struggling Stocksbridge Park Steels, who moved to third bottom – Eastwood are now at the foot – after hammering Kendal Town 5-0 on their own patch!

Danny South gave Steels an 18th minute lead from the spot and he doubled that 14 minutes later. And the final eight minutes saw the visitors add two more through Jordan Thewlis and a Conor Qualter own goal.

Biggest crowd of the day was at the New Manor Ground where struggling Ilkeston FC held FC United of Manchester to a 1-1 draw in which Nicky Platt gave the visitors a 10th minute lead that Joe Maguire levelled 17 minutes from time.

And the game between Grantham Town and Blyth Spartans also ended all-square at 2-2.

Rhys Lewis gave the home side a 20th minute lead that Ryan McGorrigan cancelled out four minutes after half-time. Lee Potts then scored what looked like being the Gingerbreads winner with 11 minutes remaining, only for Damen Mullen to grab a Spartans equaliser with five minutes to go.
