Saturday's Premier Division action review

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division leaders North Ferriby United's home game against second-place Hednesford Town survived the weather on Saturday, writes Steve Whitney, but the hosts were left wishing that maybe it hadn't!

The home side managed to break the deadlock three minutes after half-time through on-loan Anthony Wilson, but the Pitmen equalised six minutes later, courtesy of an Elliott Durrell penalty.

Wilson restored Ferriby's lead with 10 minutes to go, only for Hednesford to be awarded a second spot-kick that Durrell duly converted. And then in the last minute of normal time, Aaron Rey won it for the visitors.

Two of the chasing pack Witton Albion and Ashton United were inactive due to frozen pitches, but Marine missed the chance to go third after being held to a 1-1 draw at the Arriva Stadium by struggling, but improving, Ilkeston FC.

Nick Rogan gave the Mariners the boost of an early fourth minute lead that Jordan Smith cancelled out three minutes into the second half for Kevin Wilson's side.

Nantwich Town moved into sixth place, four points adrift of Ashton, after edging out second-bottom Stocksbridge Park Steels by the odd goal in seven at the Weaver Stadium.

Danny South gave the Yorkshire visitors the boost of an early third minute lead but by just past the half-hour mark the Dabbers were 3-1 up with goals from Josh Lane with two and Darren Moss. Sean Cooke added a fourth 10 minutes from time, but Steels made it a nervy finale when Jordan Thewlis bagged a late brace in the final six minutes.

Another of the strugglers, Whitby Town, earned a vital 1-0 win at the Turnbull Ground against Matlock Town. Recent signing Craig Farrell scored what proved to be the only goal of the game in the very first minute.

FC United of Manchester gave their play-off chances a boost with a 2-1 success at Croft Park against Blyth Spartans.

A crowd of 617 saw Phil Airey give Spartans a sixth minute lead that Dean Stott levelled eight minutes later. Top scorer Michael Norton grabbed what proved to be FC United's winner five minutes after the break.

Basement side Eastwood Town picked up a rare point from a 2-2 Coronation Park draw with Stafford Rangers, who in the end will be happy with a point as their equaliser didn't arrive until injury-time.

Levi Reid had given Rangers a 26th minute lead that Matt Harris cancelled out right on half-time. But five minutes after the interval Romaine Graham put the Badgers in front and they held that until stoppage time when Sean Kinsella rescued Rangers.

The only other game played on Saturday in the Evo-Stik Premier Division saw AFC Fylde beat Grantham Town 5-3.

This was a first ever meeting between the two sides at Kellamergh Park but they Fylde made hard work of it in the end after leading 5-0!

Michael Barnes after three minutes, Harry Winter in the 12th, Paul Jarvis on the half-hour mark and James Dean a minute before the break gave the home side a comfortable 4-0 half-time lead that Winter added to in the 64th minute.

But Grantham won a penalty three minutes later and Fylde goalkeeper Ben Hinchliffe was sent-off. Paul Grimes converted the spot-kick past midfielder Joe Booth and then Jamie McGhee, on 77 minutes, and Ashley Robinson, three minutes later, reduced the arrears to two. But the home side held on for the points to take them into tenth spot.
