Saturday's Premier Division action review

EVO-STIK League

Neighbours Stamford AFC and King's Lynn Town are the only two teams who boast 100 per cent records from the opening three matches of the EVO-STIK League's Premier Division season, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Saturday saw the Daniels secure a fine 3-0 win at the Weaver Stadium against Nantwich Town, taking the lead a minute before half-time through ex-Mansfield and Rushden & Diamonds midfielder Jon Challinor. Cameron Powell doubled the visitors` advantage on the hour-mark and then Ryan Robbins added a third to ensure the points went back to Lincolnshire with 19 minutes remaining.

The Linnets ended Stourbridge's unbeaten start to life in the NPL with a 1-0 success at The Walks in front of a crowd of 573, thanks to a goal two minutes into the second half from Michael Frew.

There are six other sides yet to taste defeat in 2014-15, although neither Belper Town nor FC United of Manchester are yet to win either as they made it three draws from their opening three games on Saturday when they met in a 2-2 draw at Bower Fold in front of a crowd of 1,849.

Mike Norton broke the deadlock to give FC United a 57th minute lead that lasted barely two minutes as Jon Froggatt equalised. Evan Garnett then put the newly-promoted Nailers ahead with just under 20 minutes to go, only for Tom Greaves to rescue the Reds with a last-gasp leveller.

Skelmersdale United, Curzon Ashton, Ashton United and Halesowen Town are the others yet to be beaten.

Skem ensured Whitby Town remained pointless to date after a 2-0 win at the Turnbull Ground, courtesy of goals from Danny Mitchley after 14 minutes and Tom Ince just past the hour-mark.

Newly-promoted Curzon dropped their first points after being held to a 1-1 draw at The Meres by Grantham Town, whose recent signing Alex Simmons cancelled out Sam Walker`s 50th minute opener with 14 minutes to go.

Curzon's Tameside neighbours Ashton also had to settle for one point from a 1-1 draw with Buxton at Hurst Cross.

Jason Gorton's goal just before half-time looked to have won it for the home side until Derek Niven popped up with a leveller for the Bucks in stoppage time.

Like fellow promotees Belper and FC United, Halesowen have also drawn all of their three games to date after another 1-1 encounter at The Grove against Frickley Athletic.

Similar to at Ashton, Danny Bragoli`s 10th minute goal for the Yeltz looked like being enough for victory until Matthew Young grabbed the equaliser in the second minute of injury-time.

Ilkeston FC made it thirteen goals in their opening three matches after hammering Trafford 6-0 at the New Manor Ground.

Visiting keeper Tom Read made several good saves, otherwise this could have been any score as the Robins were in rampant form, taking an 11th minute lead through Rob Duffy and then doubling that through Joe Maguire in the 24th minute.

Duffy's penalty four minutes before the break gave Kevin Wilson's side a 3-0 interval lead and they went on to double that with goals from Kane Richards after 52 minutes and a brace from Che Adams in the 69th and 79th minutes.

Witton Albion won their first game of the season, beating a Workington side who are finding things tough after relegation from the Conference North.

Neil Harvey gave Albion a 38th minute lead at Borough Park and then the same player added a second two minutes after half-time, with new signing from Celtic Nation, Willie Gibson, reducing the deficit on the hour-mark.

Newly-promoted Ramsbottom United are also off the mark as a Premier Division side after winning 4-2 at Dales Lane against a Rushall Olympic outfit for whom this was a first defeat under Richard Sneekes.

Phil Dean gave Rammie the boost of an early fifth minute lead that fellow returnee Jordan Hulme doubled after 28 minutes. Josh Craddock pulled the Pics back in to the game three minutes before the break, only for Jon Robinson to restore the visitors' three-goal advantage from the spot seven minutes after it.

Dean added his second and Rammie's fourth a couple of minutes later, although Craddock's second made it a nervy final seven minutes.

Marine AFC were also first-time winners, beating Barwell, who have yet to win, 2-0 at home with goals from Andy Fowler, who broke the deadlock after 63 minutes, and then Aaron Burns with nine minutes to go.

Matlock Town – another side yet to win – shared a 1-1 Causeway Lane draw with Blyth Spartans, whose Danny Maguire shot them in front a minute before half-time. But 11 minutes after the restart, Danny Holland earned the Gladiators parity.
