Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Skelmersdale United and Blyth Spartans both made it three wins from three games in the new EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division campaign on Saturday, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Skem had a goal from Danny Mitchley on the half-hour mark to thank for their 1-0 win against Halesowen Town at Stormy Corner.

And it was the same scoreline at Croft Park between Spartans and Buxton. However, the Bucks first defeat came when Dan Maguire popped up with a stoppage time winner for Tom Wade`s side.

In contrast, Ramsbottom United and Stamford AFC are yet to find a win in 2015-16 season.

Rammy were comfortably beaten 4-1 at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium by a Hyde United side for whom this was a first victory following their relegation last season.

Reece Gray opened the scoring for the Tigers after 22 minutes and Ayrton Bevins doubled that lead five minutes before the break.

The home side reduced the arrears through David Kuba-Kuba four minutes after the break but Bevins went on to complete his hat-trick with goals in the 63rd and 65th minutes.

Stamford were involved in a real ding-dong battle at the Zeeco Stadium but went down to the odd goal in seven to Ashton United.

Adam Morning gave the visitors an 18th minute lead that Andy Hall cancelled out from the penalty spot after 37 minutes and then Gregg Smith put the Daniels in the lead right on half-time.

Jordan Smith then stretched the home side`s lead to 3-1 just shy of the hour-mark. But Stamford imploded. Richard Jones conceded a 71st minute penalty for which he received a straight red card and Chris Baguley reduced the deficit from the spot.

Jordan Smith was also dismissed, leaving Stamford 3-2 up but with only nine-men. Joe Connor took advantage to equalise in the 83rd minute and Stephen Mason won it for United in injury-time.

Yet to lose so far along with the top two and Ashton are Rushall Olympic and promoted Salford City.

The Pics had to make do with a point from a 2-2 draw at The Meres against Grantham Town, Lee Beeson giving the Gingerbreads a 24th minute lead.

Luke Benbow equalised just three minutes later, only for Kris Taylor to restore the visitors` lead six minutes into the second half. Lindokuhle Ndlovu maintained his good scoring start to the season with Grantham`s equaliser 15 minutes later.

Salford inflicted a first defeat on Mickleover Sports, winning 2-1 on their travels, thanks to goals from Jordan Hulme after 58 minutes and Danny Webber 10 minutes later after Nic Degirolamo had equalised a minute after the Ammies` opener.

Frickley Athletic gained their first point of the season the hard way as they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against newly-promoted Sutton Coldfield Town with John Cyrus netting a last minute equaliser.

Substitute Tyler Williams pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute just seconds after entering the fray. The home side had taken a second minute lead through Phil Trainer before extending it a minute before half-time through Justin Richards.

Niall McManus` 89th minute effort won the game for Matlock Town at home against Whitby Town, while Stourbridge and Workington AFC shared a goalless draw at Amblecote.

Matty Bell bagged a brace in the 54th and 75th minutes as Nantwich Town sealed a 2-1 win at Marine AFC, whose Lewis Codling had given them a 51st minute lead.

Fancied Ilkeston FC and Darlington 1883 both won on Saturday, the Robins securing a 2-0 success at Llanellian Road against relegated Colwyn Bay thanks to goals from Jonathan Edwards after 34 minutes and former West Brom favourite Lee Hughes five minutes after half-time.

The Quakers recorded a second win in front of 1,243 at Heritage Park against Barwell.

Graeme Armstrong broke the deadlock to give the home side the lead six minutes into the second half, Nathan Cartman quickly doubled that with Tom Portas adding a third in injury-time after Alex Tomkinson had reduced the arrears on 86 minutes.
