Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

There were only four matches in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division on Saturday due to the FA Troph

Fourth-placed Salford City moved to within three points of third-placed Darlington 1883 with a couple of games in hand on most above them after beating fifth-placed Workington AFC 4-1 at Borough Park.

A crowd of 1,405 saw Jordan Hulme put the Ammies in front after 10 minutes.

Danny Webber doubled that 10 minutes later, only for Joe McGee to reduce the deficit 9 minutes later.

However, Scott Burton restored Salford`s two-goal cushion a couple of minutes before half-time.

And one of their FA Cup First Round heroes, Ritchie Allen, popped up with number four with 17 minutes of the game to go.

At the other end of the table, Grantham Town moved out of the bottom four after recording a 2-0 win against Mickleover Sports at The Meres.

A headed goal by Gregg Smith following a cross from Danny Meadows on 74 minutes was followed by substitute Ben Saunders forcing the ball home from close range after a corner on 78 minutes to give Grantham all three points and leave Mickleover without a win in eleven matches and are now only a point in front of the Gingerbreads.

Stamford AFC remain second-bottom after losing 3-1 at Westfield Lane against Frickley Athletic.

Returning boss Graham Drury watched his team take a 19th minute lead though Shawn Richards.

But a Tom McGowan own goal pulled the Blues level 5 minutes into the second half and then Brad Grayson on 70 minutes and Simon Lenighan a couple of minutes from time sealed the home side`s victory.

The day`s other game saw Halesowen Town and Barwell share a 1-1 draw at The Grove.

Anthony Carney gave the Canaries a 27th minute lead that Keyon Reffell eventually cancelled out for the Yeltz.
