Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

The Emirates FA Cup took centre stage on Saturday but there were games in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division and Frickley Athletic recorded their first win of the season at the ninth attempt, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It didn`t look good for the Blues as they trailed to George Bowerman`s 16th minute opener for Rangers right until 10 minutes from time when Macauley Parkinson equalised. And then four minutes later, Cameron Rigby popped up with the Frickley winner.

Newly-promoted Warrington Town were the day`s only other winners to move up to seventh in the table.

The Wire won 2-1 at The Meres against Grantham Town, coming back from a Luke Shaw goal a minute before the break to win, courtesy of a Ciaran Kilheeney brace after 69 and 89 minutes.

Buxton had the opportunity to go level on points with leaders Blyth Spartans when they travelled to struggling Corby Town.

But the Bucks had to make do with a point after Bradley Grayson cancelled out youngster Jordan Crawford`s 32nd minute opener for the Steelmen with less than seven minutes remaining.

Hednesford Town also missed the chance to join Buxton in joint second after they were held to a 2-2 Keys Park draw by Ashton United, who could have gone second with a win.

Chris Baguley gave the visitors an early seventh minute lead that Gurjit Singh eventually cancelled out 10 minutes after half-time. Matty Chadwick restored Ashton`s lead on 64 minutes but the Pitmen levelled within three minutes with Singh`s second of the afternoon.
