Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Top met bottom on Saturday in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's Premier Division, with leaders Rushall Olympic comfortably adding to basement side Corby Town`s woes with a 4-1 Steel Park victory, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Rushall opened the scoring on six minutes when Alex Reid beat the offside trap and went round Dan Farrell before slotting home. And the visitors doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark when Reid went down in the area and Karl Hawley stepped up to score from the penalty spot.

However, the Steelmen were given a lifeline on the stroke of half-time when Ben Milnes went through the defence and guided the ball past Jose Veiga. The Pics restored their two-goal advantage 10 minutes into the second half when Joe Hull seized upon some poor defending to score.

And the table-toppers rounded off a comfortable victory when Stan Mugisha ran through and went round Farrell before making it four in the 84th minute.

Rushall extended their lead to three points after second-placed Buxton were held to a goalless draw at Silverlands by another of the strugglers, second-bottom Skelmersdale United.

And third-placed Whitby Town failed to pick up any points after losing 3-1 at the Turnbull Ground to a Nantwich Town side who are now ninth but only four points adrift of the top five.

Dale Hopson gave the Seasiders a 55th minute lead – but then it turned into Osebi Abadaki`s day as he swiftly equalised and then scored two more in the 61st and 80th minutes to seal victory.

Hednesford Town and Spennymoor Town are now fourth and fifth respectively.

The Pitmen won 1-0 at Keys Park against fellow top five hopefuls Warrington Town, courtesy of a 42nd minute penalty by Ashley Sammons, while the Moors had a slightly more comfortable 3-0 Brewery Field win over Mickleover Sports.

A crowd of 478 saw David Dowson give the hosts an early sixth minute lead that Glen Taylor doubled just before the break. An 82nd minute third from Adam Mitchell ensured the points stayed in the North East.

Stourbridge are back in top five contention after their 2-0 win at Hurst Cross against Ashton United lifted the Glassboys to eighth.

Luke Benbow put them in front six minutes before the break and Kayelden Brown made sure with a second after 68 minutes.

Frickley Athletic pulled themselves five points clear of fourth-bottom Ilkeston FC after beating the Robins 4-0 at Westfield Lane.

It was a great debut for Frickley`s new signing from Goole AFC, Curtly Martin-Wyatt, who helped himself to a hat-trick with goals in the fifth, 72nd and 90th minutes, sandwiched by one from Rhys Meynell.

Third-bottom Sutton Coldfield Town pulled level on points with Ilkeston after a 1-1 draw at Kirkby Road against Barwell, whose Eddie Nisevic grabbed a stoppage time equaliser after the Royals had led from the 55th minute through George Washbourne.

Coalville Town moved up to fifteenth after a 4-0 thrashing of Workington AFC on their own Borough Park patch.

It was a day to forget for the Reds as Jack McMillan after 22 minutes and Liam Walshe just before the break gave the Ravens a 2-0 interval lead. Lukasz Rojewski added a third on 62 minutes and Massiah McDonald wrapped things up with number four with 18 minutes still to play.

The day`s other game saw Halesowen Town and Grantham Town share a 1-1 draw at The Grove.

The Yeltz took a 20th minute lead through Kennedy Digie and Felipe Barcelos levelled three minutes into the second half.
