Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Only two games survived the freezing weather in the EVO-STIK League Premier on Saturday but both had significance at the top of the table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But probably to the surprise of even their own supporters, Altrincham have retained top spot on their own after neither Shaw Lane AFC or Grantham Town were able to win.

Shaw Lane entertained mid-table Witton Albion at Sheerien Park and had to make do with a point from a 1-1 draw.

Indeed, the visitors, who are now ninth, were a little disappointed to have only managed one point, and that, despite seeing Paul Clayton break the deadlock with only 10 minutes remaining. But Owen Dale popped up with an 88th minute leveller for Albion.

Grantham`s seven-game unbeaten run in the league came to an end at The Meres against Buxton, who are now eighth.

Liam Hardy had an interesting day, giving the Bucks a 10th minute lead and then being sent-off late on for two bookable offences. The Gingerbreads laid siege to the visitors` goal late on but couldn`t find an equaliser.
