Saturday's Premier Division action review

By David Watters

Just five games survived Saturday's wet and wintry weather in the EVO-STIK League's Premier Division, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Shaw Lane AFC were the only side in the top five at the start of play who managed to get their game on and they were rewarded with a 3-2 win against third-bottom Halesowen Town to move into third, level on points with second-placed Grantham Town.

Spencer Harris gave the Ducks a great start with a goal inside four minutes. However, the teams turned round with the Yeltz 2-1 up, thanks to goals from Enock Ekongo after 37 minutes and Jordan Goddard five minutes later.

Nicky Walker eventually pulled the home side back on level terms in the 73rd minute and an unfortunate own goal when Halesowen keeper Dan Platt punched the ball into his own net, sealed victory seven minutes later.

Farsley Celtic returned to winning ways and moved back into the play-off positions with a 3-0 victory against Buxton at Throstle Nest.

A Nathan Cartman strike after 11 minutes and a late brace from sub Luke Parkin in the 80th and 82nd minutes earned Farsley the three points.

Workington AFC missed the chance to go into the top five after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Borough Park to mid-table Barwell.

Brady Hickey put the Canaries in front after 43 minutes and a second from Owen Story 16 minutes from time sealed victory.

Nantwich Town made it back-to-back wins to lift themselves up to sixteenth in the table with a 3-0 Weaver Stadium triumph over Lancaster City.

Harry Clayton gave the Dabbers the lead just before half-time, and a Sean Cooke double in the 70th and 72nd minutes settled the score.

The other game of the day saw lower table sides Rushall Olympic and Whitby Town share a 3-3 draw in the snow at Dales Lane.

Kick-off was delayed to allow time for the pitch to recover a little and lines swept. A Danny Waldren penalty saw the Pics ahead after just four minutes and then Daniel Dubidat immediately added a second.

And when Waldren made it 3-0 with just 11 minutes gone, the scoreline could have ended up being anything. But the Seasiders battled back and in the end took a point with Matthew Tymon bagging a brace in the 44th and then 87th minutes, sandwiched by a 61st minute Junior Mondal effort.
