Saturday's Premier Division review

With Chorley on FA Trophy duty on Saturday, Skelmersdale United had the opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League's Premier Division table as they travelled to struggling Stamford AFC, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

But the Daniels turned the form book upside down to record a deserved 2-0 win at Kettering Road. Stamford took the lead on 23 minutes a long throw was flicked by Richard Jones to Jordan Smith, whose header found Ryan Robbins in acres of space to smash home from five yards.

They doubled their lead when a Jason Field corner rolled to Smith and his shot fell kindly for Nabil Shariff to fire home via the post on 54 minutes.

AFC Fylde, Worksop Town and FC United of Manchester complete the top five, although Worksop had to be content with only a point from a 2-2 draw at Dales Lane against Rushall Olympic.

Zac Martin gave the Pics a 16th minute lead that Tom Denton cancelled out after 37 minutes. And three minutes later the Tigers were ahead through Jack Muldoon. But Jack Duggan ensured the points were shared when he pulled the home side back on level terms with eight minutes to go.

The Coasters won 1-0 at third-bottom Stocksbridge Park Steels thanks to a 38th minute Tom Eckersley effort while FC United eased to a 3-0 Gigg Lane success against Blyth Spartans, courtesy of goals from Tom Davies after 34 minutes, Greg Daniels just past the hour-mark and Tom Greaves five minutes from time – and the hosts could even afford to see Dean Stott blast his last minute penalty over the bar!

King's Lynn Town are just a point off the play-off places after hammering second-bottom Stafford Rangers 5-1 at The Walks.

Despite going behind, courtesy of George Thomson’s own goal, the home faithful were treated to another flurry of strikes from their team. Rob Duffy made it 1-1 immediately afterwards before centre-back Ryan Fryatt’s third strike in four games, and his fourth in six, gave Lynn the lead five minutes into the second half.

Thomson made up for his earlier misfortune by making it three with a neat set-piece on 72 minutes before skipper Ryan Clarke provided number four late on. And there was still time for Andy Hall to strike in injury-time to make it a nap hand.

Elsewhere, after a scrappy start at Silverlands, two goals in three first half minutes eased Buxton to a half-time lead against Barwell.

Craig King slammed home following good work from Lee Morris on 24 minutes and then Morris himself scored from the spot on 27 minutes. Barwell's Luke Barlone missed from the spot at the start of the second half, veteran keeper Andy Warrington pulling off the save, and Matt Thornhill wrapped up the points on 50 minutes.

Gavin Allott was Frickley Athletic's hero once more as his hat-trick, including a last-minute winner, sealed a 3-2 home win over Grantham Town, who led twice through Charley Sanders and Ashley Burbeary's penalty.

Ashton United ended a recent poor run of results with a 2-1 success at Ilkeston FC, with goals from Matty Chadwick right on half-time and Jason Gorton five minutes from time after Laurie Wilson had equalised for the Robins 10 minutes earlier.

Trafford slipped into the bottom four after a 1-0 home defeat to Nantwich Town, for whom Adam Jones popped up with a stoppage time winner.

Anthony Gardner's only goal of the game for Witton Albion came a little earlier – his 20th minute effort proving enough to see off Matlock Town at Wincham Park.

The game between Whitby Town and Marine at the Turnbull Ground ended goalless.
